Essential Job Duties: Be part of something bigger-our College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) finance team is hiring two Budget Consultants to help drive sound financial decisions that support research, teaching, and extension across North Carolina.

In this role, you'll partner with college leaders to manage, analyze, and optimize budgets that support groundbreaking research, teaching, and extension efforts across North Carolina. You'll forecast budgets, advise administrators, prepare financial analyses, and help guide fiscal decisions that sustain the accuracy and integrity of the College's operations.

As a key resource for CALS departments, you'll translate financial data into actionable insights and ensure compliance with University, state, and federal regulations. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly. You'll thrive in a team that values collaboration, adaptability, and a shared commitment to service excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Budget Management and Analysis: Develop, monitor, and forecast budgets for a variety of fund types, including state appropriations, federal capacity funds, and trust accounts.
  • Strategic Financial Support: Provide data-driven recommendations and analysis to assist college leaders in sound financial decision-making.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with University, state, and federal financial policies, including Uniform Guidance.
  • Training and Consultation: Advise and train department leaders on financial procedures, reporting, and best practices.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Partner with finance and administrative staff across CALS to improve budget processes and promote transparency.

If you're analytical, curious, and ready to make an impact, this role is for you. Bring your financial expertise, collaborative spirit, and drive to support CALS' mission of advancing teaching, research, and outreach across North Carolina-we encourage you to apply.

Other Work/Responsibilities: In addition to the core responsibilities of this role, there may be occasional opportunities to take on additional duties. This offers an opportunity to build on your skills, explore new areas, and gain a deeper understanding of the department's operations.

Minimum Experience/Education: Bachelor's degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate's degree in Accounting; or Associate's degree in Business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including use of advanced formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis tools. Ability to analyze complex financial data and develop clear, accurate reports and forecasts. Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial audiences. Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proven customer service and relationship-building skills, with a focus on collaboration and problem solving.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with PeopleSoft Financials or similar enterprise financial systems. Working knowledge of federal Uniform Guidance and compliance requirements for sponsored funds. Familiarity with university or public-sector budgeting and accounting practices. Advanced degree in Business, Accounting, Public Administration, or related field.
