"Building Controls Systems Technician III"

This position will provide services and maintenance on fire alarm systems across MU Campus.

Job Duties:

• Install and commission, troubleshoot and repair malfunctions, and perform preventative maintenance on microprocessor based distributed fire alarm systems and associated electrical control equipment in University buildings and facilities.
• Install, operate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair fire alarm systems and components.
• Evaluate complex factors and malfunctions in building fire alarm, fire sprinkler, life safety, security and miscellaneous other building systems and take corrective actions.
• Assist with training of Fire Alarm Technicians in lower classifications.
• May perform or assist in the preparation of cost estimates, material orders, reports and maintenance of records.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Shift: 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday

Minimum Qualifications:

Personnel in the Building Controls System Technician employee development program:

• This job is a promotional step from a Building Controls Technician II, and requires successful completion of skill assessments and 1.5 years of experience as a Building Controls System Technician II.
• All Personnel: A high school graduate with one year of university or technical training in electronics, electrical engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
• Three years of experience in the skilled maintenance, installation and repair of distributed automation systems for buildings and associated electrical and pneumatic control equipment or two years completion of technical training.
• During the first six months of employment, must complete the same skills assessment required of a Building Controls Systems Technician II as outlined in the Building Controls System Technician Employee Development Program.
• Knowledge of building codes is preferred.
• Skill in use and operation of tools, equipment and materials necessary to complete the essential functions of the job.
• Ability to read blueprints, drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams.
• A valid State of Missouri Driver’s License must be held and maintained by incumbents in the position.
• A person working in this classification will need to: Grasp, lift, carry and set down objects of moderate weight (50 lbs.) on a regular basis; Grasp, lift and pull electrical/electronic cabling and wiring on a regular basis; Climb and work from ladders, scaffolding and staging on an occasional basis; Ability to get into and work in hot, moist, confined spaces on an occasional basis.

Preferred Qualifications: NICET Level II Certification

Anticipated Hiring Range: Salary Range: $33.00 - $35.00 per hour. Grade: GGS-G. University Title: Building Controls System Technician III.
