Building Manager
Job Summary
As Building Manager of an undergraduate residential dormitory (House), you are responsible for all physical resources operations in the House.
Job-Specific Responsibilities
- Oversees the maintenance & operations of the House to provide a safe home for undergraduate students and other members of the House community.
- Works closely with Faculty Dean(s) and Resident Dean to provide a smoothly functioning House.
- Regularly interacts with student residents, responding to occupant building problems/requests promptly and resolving them quickly.
- Works with Area Manager across a range of areas including budget management, vendor selection, & managing relationships with many Harvard departments.
- Directs day-to-day activity of custodial staff, building trades, & contractors to assure timely and cost effective completion of work.
- Maintains the security of the buildings through proper attention to access control, security procedures and the condition of locking devices.
- Reviews computer based HVAC, security and fire systems, monitors safety compliance, coordinates inspections and ensures compliance with codes & regulations.
- Works closely with OPR & P and Harvard University Office for Sustainability staff to implement best operations and maintenance practices, and to actively participate in FAS greenhouse gas and energy reduction efforts and goals for House.
- Responds to emergency situations as appropriate during both working and off-hours.
- Occasional planned weekend work including student move-in, move-out and summer school move-in
