Business Administrator (Engineering Business Services - (HMBC) (UPDATED - Multiple Hire)
The Harshbarger-Mines Business Center (HMBC) in the College of Engineering at the University of Arizona is seeking a dynamic, self-starter for the position of Business Administrator (Administrative Operations Professional II). This position reports to the Director of Finance and Administration and supports five academic departments and the School of Mining and Mineral Resources. It plays a key role on the HMBC finance team, responsible for a portfolio of 129 faculty members, 57 staff, and 164 graduates.
Responsibilities include assisting with budget management for multiple departments, unit finances, the All Funds Budget process, and fiscal year-end. The role also involves aiding with start-up budgets and working under general guidance with knowledge of business and human resources functions in an academic unit.
Financial Duties:
- Assist with fiscal year-end account review and rollover, review reports, and create special reports as needed.
- Assist with tracking department operational budgets on a monthly basis.
- Help to manage the daily operations of multiple departments and assist in creating budgets.
- Review and approve financial transactions in accordance with established departmental operating budgets.
- Assist in preparing financial and administrative reports for All Funds Budget process.
- Compile and interpret financial data using Analytics to generate monthly reports and accounting summaries.
- May liaise with HR staff to coordinate the financial component of various HR processes.
Administrative Duties:
- Assist with streamlining HMBC processes for higher efficiency and improved customer service.
- Assist with special projects as needed.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong initiative and prioritization skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Knowledge of accounting, financial, and industry principles.
- Ability to research and analyze data.
- Ability to maintain sensitivity with confidential information.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning through professional experience, and a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in higher education or government accounting, including various fund types, and familiarity with UA policies and systems like UAccess.
