Business Analyst

The University of Otago is a progressive organisation at the forefront of digital transformation, modernising our enterprise systems portfolio. We are seeking a Business Analyst to join our Continuous Improvement Value Stream, where you’ll help shape and deliver improvements to the Student Management System.
In this role, you’ll work within a scrum team, contributing to sprint-based delivery and continuous improvement of the Student Management System. You’ll partner with stakeholders across the University to gather insights and turn them into impactful solutions that enhance the student journey.
Key tasks of the role include:
- Analyse business needs, processes, and systems to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Gather, document, and manage requirements—from current state through to future solutions.
- Work with stakeholders to run workshops, ask the right questions, and prioritise needs.
- Translate business requirements into clear, actionable outputs for delivery teams.
- Contribute to user-focused solution design and improved digital experiences.
- Support testing and implementation to ensure solutions deliver real value.
- Help ensure initiatives align with broader business goals and roadmaps.

You enjoy working with people, asking the right questions, and turning complex problems into clear, practical solutions.
To succeed in this role, your toolkit will include:
- Experience in business analysis, including requirements gathering and process analysis.
- Strong communication skills—you can engage stakeholders and translate needs clearly.
- Confidence facilitating workshops and working through ambiguity.
- A structured, analytical approach with attention to detail.
- Experience contributing to projects or system enhancements.
- Exposure to an agile software enhancement delivery environment (preferred).

This is a full-time (37.5 hours week), permanent position, located in Ōtepoti, Dunedin.
The appointment range for this role is $85,057 to $92,174. Top of range $97,508.
You must have the right to live and work in New Zealand to apply for this position.
