The University of Oxford is a stimulating work environment, which enjoys an international reputation as a world-class centre of excellence. Our research plays a key role in tackling many global challenges, from reducing our carbon emissions to developing vaccines during a pandemic.

The Department of Physics is looking to recruit a Business and Outreach Coordinator to work on the COMPOS (Comprehensive Oxford Maths and Physics Online School) Outreach programme. This post is fixed term for one year to cover a period of maternity leave, and is a remote/home working position primarily.

The COMPOS programme provides advanced online lectures and weekly small-group tutorials — delivered mostly by Oxford undergraduates — to around 1,000 students from across the UK, including ~20% from the lowest-income backgrounds and 35% women or non-binary students. Both are funded by philanthropic donations, and are widely recognised as leading national resources for students interested in physics and mathematics beyond the school curriculum. We are particularly keen to support student in schools without specialist physics or maths teachers or those who come from backgrounds historically underrepresented in STEM.

The chosen candidate will take charge of promotional and marketing activities for the programme from social media to raising awareness in traditional media outlets to direct school outreach. A key component of the role is relationship management to reach both those who would benefit from the programme and those who can help deliver it.

What We Offer

As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees’ wellbeing, and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer including:

  • An excellent contributory pension scheme
  • 38 days annual leave
  • A comprehensive range of childcare services
  • Family leave schemes
  • Cycle loan scheme
  • Discounted bus travel and Season Ticket travel loans
  • Membership to a variety of social and sports clubs

About the Role

This is a wide-ranging role with responsibility for outreach, fundraising and business management. In this role, you will build relationships with existing and potential donors to encourage ongoing support and increased giving. You will work closely with finance teams to monitor income, expenditure, and financial performance related to COMPOS activities. You will ensure a consistent and positive representation of COMPOS across all communication and activities. You will manage COMPOS’ online presence, including website content, social media, email marketing campaigns, and potentially SEO/SEM efforts. You will also be expected to build relationships with schools, academy trusts and UK university Access and Outreach staff.

About You

The successful applicant will be educated to degree level or equivalent and have experience of fundraising, marketing and business management within the third sector or higher education. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong numeracy and administration experience are also essential. The successful applicant must also satisfy an enhanced DBS check.

Application Process

For further details about the role, please see the job description. You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Friday 13 February. Interviews are expected to be held in late February/early March 2026.
