Business Officer
Position Summary
The Business Officer position manages the business, financial, and human resources affairs of the Global Engagement Office. This includes day-to-day budgetary operations (processing, managing, and completing); forecasting unit budgetary needs; assisting the Associate Provost for GEO in operational budget decisions; managing GEO’s budgetary workflow; serving as GEO’s hiring manager and HR liaison; serving as unit budget authority; and providing guidance to the Associate Provost and GEO functional units (Study Abroad, International Student and Scholar Services, and International Recruitment) regarding budgetary and human resources processes and policy. This position also supports budget management of grants (like Fulbright TEA) and other revenue generating programs (like the international recruitment summer youth academy). This position requires a high level of discretion and independent judgement.
The unit manages 30+ funds that contribute to university wide internationalization efforts. The financial breakdown of the monies managed and expended by the GEO Business Officer annually is about $2.4 million: $0.9 million in state funds and $1.5+ million in external (soft) and endowment funding and external federal grants.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or related business area; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or related business area and three years of professional accounting experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
