Job Description Summary:
This position is available within the University of Maryland’s Division of Information Technology (DIT) on the Enterprise Planning and Continuous Improvement (EPCI) team, which provides enterprise planning and analytical support to the UMD community.
The Business Process Consultant leads process improvement initiatives across administrative and academic units, driving efficiencies in enterprise operations and supporting organizational effectiveness. Working both independently and in teams, the consultant partners with campus leaders to assess current practices, identify opportunities, and deliver actionable recommendations that align with institutional goals.
Core responsibilities include facilitating discovery sessions, analyzing and modeling business processes, preparing recommendation briefs, and supporting system development, testing, and implementation. The role also advises project leadership on critical decisions and helps guide organizational change in complex environments.
This position is considered essential and may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergency to help maintain the continuity of University services.
May be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, or different shifts for extended periods.
Physical Demands:
Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience with process improvement practice in a professional or academic setting.
Other:
Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of business process analysis methodologies.
- Skill in analytics, logic, and problem-solving.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and ability to learn on the fly to understand and solve new problems.
- Skill in attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, adjusting priorities as needed and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and written in a manner that is clear, logical, and consistent
- Ability to interact at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to effectively work as a team and independently.
Additional Information:
Please note that all positions within the Division of Information Technology (DIT) have an in person component with expected time in our College Park, MD location per week. Telework is not a guaranteed work arrangement.
