Pay Grade/Pay Range: $96,000.00

Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm

Job Summary: The Business Researcher I contributes to the planning and design of business research and creative projects. Performs supporting research and creative activities such as data analysis, monitoring outcomes, performing lab maintenance, and/or performing experiments and creating creative projects. May assist in both short- and long-term planning and project goals. May assist with research and creative proposals and dissemination of project findings.

Additional Department Summary: The Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) focuses on research and service to the State and people of Alabama and the nation at large. The Center, established in 1930, is committed to promoting development throughout Alabama. CBER’s research spans economic and fiscal policy, business, environmental, and economic and workforce development studies. CBER also collects, maintains, analyzes, and releases business and socioeconomic data. Primary beneficiaries of this expertise include State of Alabama and local government agencies, business/industry, The University of Alabama System (UAS) office, and The University of Alabama (UA). Uses knowledge and understanding of complex economic systems to redevelop, maintain, and enhance Alabama Economy Online, a proprietary CBER web application. Develops and maintains economic models and databanks. Conceptualizes changes in state economic systems and structures and incorporate such changes in economic models used for forecasts and analysis. Interacts with external contacts and communicate economic and socioeconomic insight and impacts that contributes to Alabama’s economic development. Works in a team environment and may undertake some project-specific supervisory responsibilities. The Alabama Economy Online is a significant undertaking that provides economic impact calculators for the state and all its counties and metro areas and area profiles of the state and its 67 counties.

Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Economics, Statistics, or Business-related field and two (2) years of economic analysis and/or forecasting experience; OR Master's degree or higher in Economics, Statistics, or Business-related field and some of economic analysis and/or forecasting experience.

Skills and Knowledge: Good organizational and communication, both verbal and written, skills. Analytical and quantitative skills. Familiarity with economic systems and structures at state, regional, and local levels. Knowledge of economic forecasting and modeling software. Knowledge of web design, word processing, spreadsheet, and graphics packages.
