Cabinetmaker II
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- As Essential Personnel, you must be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns and any emergencies, including clean up required because of severe weather incidents. Performs snow removal activities as assigned. Such as shoveling, salting, etc. Maintenance Technicians are essential to the overall success of Liberty University and its day-to-day functions, especially during ongoing campus events such as, Orientation, Convocation, Commencement, and CFAW, summer camps, amongst other planned and unplanned events throughout the year. Must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise.
- Must be able to work 1st or 2nd shift, and must be able to be on a 7 day, "Available to work," rotation as needed.
- Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the Cabinet Shop Supervisor.
- Responsible for wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing the job duties and responsibilities of the Cabinetmaker Tech II including but not limited to; protective eye wear, ear protection, hard hat, gloves, steel-toed boots with slip resistant soles, respirators/masks, reflective safety vests, and sunscreen.
- Responsible for wearing a harness with a lanyard and other PPE if operating aerial lifts to perform & complete assigned jobs.
- Sets-up and operates a variety of woodworking machines and uses various hand tools to fabricate and repair wooden cabinets and high-grade furniture.
- Studies Blueprints or drawings of articles to be constructed or repaired, and plans sequence of cutting or shaping operations to be perform
- Marks outline or dimensions of parts on paper or lumber stock, according to blueprints or drawing specifications.
- Matches materials for color, grain, or texture.
- Sets-up and operates woodworking machines, such as power saws, jointer, mortiser, tenoner, molder, and shaper, to cut and shape parts from wood stock.
- Trims component parts of joints to ensure snug fit, using hand tools, such as planes, chisels, or wood files.
- Bores holes for insertion of screws or dowels by hand or using boring machine.
- Glues, fits, and clamps parts and sub-assemblies together to form complete unit; using clamps, or clamping machine.
- Dip, brush, or spray assembled articles with protective or decorative materials, such as stain, varnish, or paint.
- Install hardware, such as hinges, catches, and drawer pull.
- Follows all safety and housekeeping policies to ensure a safe working environment.
- Must provide own hand tools to perform and complete trade related tasks.
- Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
- Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's Christian model and Mission - Training Champions for Christ.
- Other tasking as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May supervise some Cabinet Maker I techs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Education and Experience
- This position requires a high school degree or GED.
- Minimum of 3+ years of related experience in cabinetmaking doing a variety of woodwork.
