Main Responsibilities
The CAD Specialist shall be responsible for the development, maintenance, and control of the integrated CAD model of the product and its constituent parts.
- developing and maintaining 3D models of parts, assemblies, and overall product layouts;
- creating and maintaining large assemblies;
- establishing the product structure within the CAD environment in accordance with the approved Product Tree;
- controlling the relative positioning of systems, equipment, piping, cable routing, and structural elements;
- performing interference, clearance, and equipment accessibility checks;
- preparing layout and geometry models for structural, thermal, CFD, and other engineering analyses;
- preparing models for the release of engineering drawings and other design documentation;
- maintaining CAD models up to date as the design evolves;
- participating in product configuration and engineering change management;
- developing and maintaining modelling rules and conventions for naming files, parts, assemblies, and parameters;
- coordinating with design engineers, analysis engineers, and systems engineers.
Mandatory Requirements
The candidate shall have:
- a university degree or technical/vocational qualification in a relevant engineering discipline;
- practical experience with mechanical engineering CAD systems;
- strong skills in parametric 3D modelling;
- experience in designing parts and assemblies for complex engineering products;
- understanding of large-assembly modelling principles and external reference management;
- experience with both solid and surface modelling;
- understanding of engineering drawing and design documentation practices;
- knowledge of dimensional chains, tolerances, fits, and geometrical tolerancing;
- ability to read and analyse mechanical engineering drawings;
- understanding of the relationship between the CAD model, product structure, bill of materials/specification, and engineering documentation;
- ability to work with evolving geometry during early design phases.
Software Requirements
Experience with the following software is preferred:
- CATIA;
- SolidWorks;
- 3DEXPERIENCE;
- product structure and engineering data management tools within the Dassault Systèmes environment.
Experience with Siemens NX, Creo, or other professional CAD systems will be considered an advantage, provided the candidate is willing to transition to the platform used within the project.
Desirable Competencies
The following will be considered an advantage:
- experience in the aerospace, launch vehicle, aviation, or other complex mechanical engineering industries;
- experience in the layout and integration of tanks, load-bearing structures, propulsion systems, piping, and onboard equipment;
- experience with PLM/PDM systems;
- understanding of Configuration Management principles;
- experience in preparing geometry for FEA and CFD analysis;
- knowledge of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly principles;
- experience in developing company CAD standards, modelling rules, and model templates.
