Westlake Fellows Program:

Westlake University initiates the first-ever Westlake Fellows Program to recognize the contributions of emerging and outstanding scholars worldwide, to foster a unique environment of extraordinary young scientists to yield key discoveries, to draw brilliant visiting faculty for innovative and collaborative research, and to create a vibrant eco-system for international collaborations that lead to free exchange of ideas and enduring bonds between institutions and nations. The Program offers two types of fellows for scholars at different career stages, namely Westlake Fellows and Westlake Visiting Professors:

Westlake Fellows seek exceptional young scientists of great promise in their early careers whom we wish to attract to Westlake, which may lead to subsequent faculty appointments. We will provide them the opportunity to start their own research as independent or semi-independent Principal Investigators, pursue cutting-edge research, and with access to the outstanding technical and scientific resources at Westlake for three years as an alternative to traditional postdoctoral programs. The appointment can be extended for up to three additional years upon approval, for a total of six years. Meanwhile, they can benefit from the mentorship of their host faculty with tremendous flexibility and the full support from the host School and the University.

Westlake Visiting Professors, including Westlake Senior Fellows and Westlake Distinguished Fellows, aim to bring outstanding assistant/associate professors or brilliant full professors (or equivalent) from around the world to Westlake campus on a short-term basis for innovative and collaborative research or teaching interactions within Westlake’s interdisciplinary community.

Opportunities:

1. Westlake Fellows: The candidate should have been awarded recently or be about to obtain the doctoral degree. Ph.D. must be received before the visit. Postdoctoral associates cannot have had more than two years of postdoctoral experience from other institutions, nor been employed as an assistant professor, associate professor or full professor, in order to be eligible for the Program. The Program seeks eight to 10 Westlake Fellows per year, based on nominations by faculty or research scientist worldwide, followed by an application. Review of applications will start upon receipt and will continue until the positions are filled.
2. Westlake Visiting Professors: The Program searches for about 10 Westlake Senior Fellows (assistant/associate professors or equivalent) and Westlake Distinguished Fellows (full professors or equivalent) on-campus at any given time, based on nominations by the invited Westlake community members.
