Offer Description
Research work with participation in the following work packages:
WP2: Urban Digital Twin, Data Services and Security and, more specifically, in the following task:
Task 2.1: Common Information Models and Urban Data Spaces
The task focuses on contributing to the development of the Common Information Model (CIM) and the specialized Data Space of the pilot cities, in order to ensure the integration and interoperability of the intelligent tools developed within TWIN4CITIES.
The work includes the review and comparative analysis of existing data standards, semantic models, and ontologies related to the thematic areas of the project, as well as the definition of the CIM framework capturing the syntactic and semantic structures required for the management of data from each pilot. This includes energy profiles, land-use representations, and environmental indicators, with the aim of ensuring consistent data representation, aggregation, and exchange across the pilots.
The task also includes contributing to the definition of the specifications of the Data Space infrastructure, which will leverage open standards and comply with the European regulatory framework for data, supporting decentralized and secure environments for the ingestion, management, and sharing of pilot resources, including sensors, measurement systems, and IoT devices.
In addition, the work involves the adaptation and implementation of the model using data from the Greek pilot in Kozani.
WP3: TWIN4CITIES Intelligent AI-based Solutions and, more specifically, in all tasks of the work package:
Task 3.1: Analytical Modelling and Simulation Solutions
The task focuses on contributing to the development of the project's analytical modelling and simulation tools.
The work includes the integration of high-resolution climate and meteorological data, including temperature, wind, and precipitation, and their interoperability with BIM, GIS, and LCA systems through open standards. It also includes mechanisms for data collection, harmonization, cleaning, and quality control using artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques.
The work further involves contributing to the development of methods for assessing climate risk and vulnerability at building level, supporting predictive urban planning; the simulation of multi-hazard scenarios, including heatwaves, floods, and strong winds; and the generation of risk-prioritization and sector-specific adaptation-measure maps.
In addition, the researcher will contribute to the assessment and optimization of indoor and outdoor environmental conditions affecting health and comfort in urban areas, including air pollutants, thermal stress, humidity, solar radiation, and wind flow. The work will also include the assessment of alternative intervention scenarios, such as green infrastructure, material choices, and traffic management measures, as well as the modelling of energy technologies and local constraints for the assessment of project impacts.
Task 3.3: Strategic Decision Support and Management Solutions
The task focuses on contributing to the development of strategic decision-support and management tools.
The work includes contributing to the dynamic energy management tool for buildings, districts, and energy communities, using hybrid artificial intelligence models, such as LSTM and GNN, for forecasting electricity and thermal demand, local renewable energy generation, and grid availability. It also includes the dynamic optimization of system component operation and the analysis of “what-if” scenarios with regard to climate neutrality indicators, resilience, and operational costs.
The work further includes contributing to the awareness and forecasting toolkit for the simulation of medium- and long-term scenarios and the assessment of alternative policies, as well as to mechanisms for explaining artificial intelligence results and engaging users, adapted to their level of digital literacy.
Task 3.4: TWIN4CITIES Interaction Platform
The task focuses on contributing to the development of the project's interaction platform, which serves as the central point for citizen engagement and access to the tools of the Urban Intelligent Framework.
The work includes the integration of results from the individual tools, the visualization of interactive scenarios, the implementation of surveys and participatory voting processes, and the provision of data dashboards, enabling stakeholders and citizens to participate in co-creation and decision-making processes.
Particular emphasis is placed on accessibility and inclusion, through user-friendly design adapted to different population groups, including vulnerable groups and individuals with low levels of digital skills.
Task 3.5: Integration of the Digital TWIN4CITIES System
The task focuses on contributing to the integration of the digital components developed within the technical work packages (WP2–WP3) into a single, modular, and adaptable Urban Intelligent Framework.
The work includes the identification and implementation of synchronization protocols, data exchange standards, and internal communication interfaces, in order to ensure interoperability among the individual components and real-time data flows between the local digital twins, decision-support systems, and participatory platforms.
The task also includes conducting verification tests to assess the functional integration of the overall system.
WP6: TWIN4CITIES Pilot Demonstration Activities and, more specifically, in the following task:
Task 6.2: Pilots’ Baseline Data Collection and Deployment of Technical Equipment
The task focuses on contributing to the preparation and installation of the infrastructure of the Greek pilot, ensuring that all technical and operational components are available for the smooth implementation of the demonstration activities.
The work includes the planning, execution, and coordination of preparatory activities in cooperation with local technical partners and the Municipality of Kozani, including securing the required permits and approvals.
The activities include the configuration, installation, and commissioning of the necessary hardware and software, including sensors, actuators, data loggers, communication gateways, and protocol adapters, as well as the documentation of the specifications of existing infrastructures.
The task also includes the collection and processing of baseline data, such as energy and environmental measurements, which will feed into the project's digital twins and artificial intelligence tools and provide the basis for assessing the outcomes of the demonstration activities.
