Campus Development Coordinator - Laboratory & Technology (m/f/d) Max Planck Institutes for Biochemistry for Biological Intelligence

Campus Development Coordinator – Laboratory & Technology (m/f/d)

What it's all about

Over the next few years, a completely new, state-of-the-art and adaptive research infrastructure will be created on the campus of the Max Planck Institutes for Biochemistry (MPIB) and Biological Intelligence (MPI-BI) – a flagship project with the highest technical and sustainability standards.

Your impact as a scientific-technical user representative

  • Bringing technology and science together: You connect the reality of everyday laboratory life with the logic of technical building equipment (TBE) and ensure that demanding research runs efficiently and smoothly – in a generalist, conceptual and practical manner.
  • Translating instead of just managing: You collect and document requirements from research, administration and facilities and translate them into clear, verifiable requirements for laboratories and TBE. In close coordination with all those involved in planning, you develop viable solutions.
  • Shaping the process from planning to commissioning: You drive standardisation and modular laboratory and office layouts, review general planner solutions from a technical and functional perspective, and develop variants and decision templates – always with an eye on flexibility, resilience, sustainability and user needs.
  • Working digitally and sustainably: You will use Building Information Management (BIM) with CAFM integration, deliver structured and reliable data, take life cycle costs into account and embed sustainability holistically – ecologically, economically and socially.

What you bring to the table

  • Scientific or structural engineering background: Degree in natural sciences with several years of laboratory experience or a degree in construction or engineering with several years of professional experience.
  • You understand laboratory work and the technical aspects involved: You are familiar with real-world processes, safety requirements and equipment in research, as well as with planning, conversions, commissioning or qualification and accreditation processes for laboratories.
  • Solid overall technical understanding: You don't have to be a TBE professional, but you do have a comprehensive understanding of laboratory, building and operational services. You can assess decisions from a technical and functional perspective and enjoy conceptual thinking.
  • Working style & team spirit: You enjoy working in a structured, pragmatic and interdisciplinary manner in an international environment; you take ownership of defined work packages and deliver reliably – you are confident in planning and coordination processes and enjoy tackling complex, cross-disciplinary issues. Communication in German and/or English is a natural part of your daily work.

Why us?

  • Multidisciplinary design: Together with the scientific campus construction coordinator, you represent the technical and scientific requirements in the project. With plenty of creative freedom for content.
  • Learning encouraged: Professional training (laboratory, safety, BIM/CAFM, HOAI, DIN, etc.) – your knowledge grows with the project.
  • Good working conditions:
    • TVöD (Federal Civil Service Remuneration Act, based on personal qualifications) and employee-friendly company agreements (including project-dependent mobile working options), visa/relocation support available, social benefits (including company pension scheme, annual bonus, contribution to travel pass, group accident insurance).
    • Modern workplaces, health and sports facilities, good work-life balance (cooperation with family services).
    • Full-time; the position is initially limited to two years. If you are suitable, permanent employment is possible and expressly desired.

The Max Planck Society strives for gender equality and diversity. Women are expressly encouraged to apply. Applications from people with severe disabilities are expressly welcome.
