Campus Police Sergeant
Job Description
Responsible for providing shift supervision and management of TCTC Campus Police personnel. Enforces State, County and Municipal laws, rules and regulations for the protection and security of persons and/or property of TCTC. Act as a police officer, reporting and taking corrective action on violations of the law and/or all related situations. Enforces College rules and regulations covering state law, security, traffic, and parking as needed for the protection and security of persons and property on college campus.
Job Functions:
- Supervises all TCTC Campus Police Officers assigned to respective shift. Maintains communications according to chain of command. Provide basic training related to Evacuation Plan, active shooter incidents, emergency exits, PPEs to employees, contract workers and suppliers; identify potential hazards and follow-up for necessary Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, and provide time- to time briefing and debriefing for campus security and safety; respond to emergency incidents, including natural disasters, and assess the situation to determine the level of response required; act as duty officer as directed by the Chief of Police as part of the emergency response system and responding to emergency situations as they arise, to include active shooter incidents. Will provide emergency preparedness training to building coordinators and other campus staff and students. Performs other duties as assigned.
- Patrols campus to prevent crime and detect violations of law and college regulations. Seeks to prevent theft and damage to college property. Identifies and reports safety and security hazards. Performs general police and public service functions such as maintaining order during emergencies, providing first aid, fire prevention, and community oriented information/assistance. Performs communications and other administrative services when required.
- Directs traffic, controls access and movement of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, investigates accidents and issues warnings and citations to violators.
- Keeps accurate and complete reports and records regarding activities and complaints pertaining to safety, enforcement of laws and college regulations, or fire hazards. Insures officers are performing monthly inspections of AED's, fire extinguishers, and other emergency support equipment.
- Apprehends and arrests violators and testifies in court and other legal or administrative proceedings. Investigates criminal and administrative incidents.
- Responds to complaints, reports of violations, and request for assistance. Investigates incidents, gathers evidence, maintains crime scenes, and pursues by making a reasonable decision, and exhibiting sound judgement corresponding to administrative procedure and/or the legal process.
