Career & Academic Advisor
Position Summary
Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is seeking a Career and Academic Advisor to support the success of our diverse student population through our AAS and transfer programs. In this role, you will provide comprehensive guidance to both current and prospective students, helping them navigate their educational journey and align their academic goals with career aspirations.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting students with educational program planning, career exploration, and transfer planning to ensure alignment with long-term career and educational objectives.
- Offering personalized advice on course selection, degree requirements, and pathways to career success.
- Providing short-term intervention and support to address academic challenges and connecting students with appropriate community resources when necessary.
- Facilitating career development opportunities through workshops and one-on-one sessions, helping students explore potential career paths and job market trends.
Advisors in this role will contribute to creating a supportive and engaging learning environment by empowering students to make informed decisions about their futures. This position may be based at either the North or South campus, depending on departmental needs.
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelors degree in counseling, education, human services, social work or related field.
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills
- Masters degree in counseling, education, human services, social worker or related field,
- Related human services experience.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite software.
- Ability to use electronic advising tools, academic and career tools.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Develop and deliver presentations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages a caseload of students advising them on a variety of issues related to assigned academic area(s),determining student eligibility for services and admissions while ensuring alignment with overall College goals.
- Monitors program participation, evaluates program performance, and recommends program improvements.
- Coordinates department functions and/or services, which may include counseling students on coursework
- Develops and presents workshops regarding academics and student services
- Arrange logistics related to travel, housing or activities for prospective students and parents
- Locate social services or academic resources for students as requested
- Prepare, review, and submit a variety of operational and student records, reports, and related documents and information.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
