Career Advisor
Job Summary
Provide career/professional development guidance and support to students in undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, including recent graduates/alumni. Partner with employers, faculty, and campus services to facilitate career development programs, employment/applied learning experiences, and other initiatives. Meet with academic department chairs and student support areas to develop and implement goals/initiatives annually. This position supports majors in the Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, and other targeted populations, with potential changes based on needs.
Responsibilities
- Career Services Professionalism/Teamwork/Leadership: Maintain professional affiliations, focus on development trends, and model professional behavior. Ensure positive customer service and communication within the office.
- Employer Development & Relations: Maintain expertise in career technology, facilitate on-campus recruitment, monitor student employment, and represent Career Services at events.
- Student Engagement & Development: Advise students on career and personal development, address individual issues, educate on resources, and generate marketing materials.
- Program Development & Execution: Collaborate with academic programs to customize resources, develop innovative programming, and coordinate outreach based on needs.
- Reporting, Documentation & Technology Management: Document student notes, collect employment data, generate reports, and maintain technology systems.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling/Higher Education Administration or related area.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Career Services, higher education, counseling, or employment services. Technology experience with career software and databases.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge: Proficient in Microsoft Office and career counseling theories.
Skills: Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Abilities: Maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, work independently or in teams, and develop professional relationships.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; M-F (possible outside regular hours). Salary commensurate with qualifications. Benefits include health insurance, retirement, vacation, sick leave, and holidays for full-time employees.
