The University of Mount Olive is currently seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to serve as a Career Development Coach. As a key member of the Learning Commons team, the individual in this role will play a crucial role in supporting overall student success and increasing retention and persistence to graduation. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop and implement engaging career development programs that align with the institution's strategic objectives for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in both seated and online classes. Collaborating with campus and community partners, as well as employers, will be a key aspect of this role, allowing for meaningful connections that enhance our students' career opportunities. The ideal candidate will be skilled in event planning, marketing, and evaluation to ensure the success of career development-related events. To ensure the success of initiatives focused on student retention and career development, the candidate must demonstrate effective multitasking and prioritization skills, as well as the ability to establish a prominent presence within the campus community.

This campus-based position is 12 months in duration, with a schedule of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 am - 4:00 pm on Friday. Evening and weekend work may be required as needed.

Responsibilities include:

  • Creating, delivering, and evaluating quality career development programming for undergraduate and graduate students for both the traditional and online modalities
  • Providing career coaching and access to a variety of employment resources to help students and alumni set and reach their employment goals
  • Providing practical training and assistance in basic job search techniques (e.g., applications, rĂ©sumĂ©s, cover letters, interviewing skills, etc.)
  • Planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating on-campus and/virtual career fairs, job fairs, employer recruitment, and other career-related events
  • Facilitating networking opportunities among students and alumni/contacts in business and industry
  • Collaborating with several institutional departments to identify and implement joint initiatives that would introduce new career-related and developmental opportunities to students
  • Developing a strategic outreach plan which includes analyzing recent graduate employment data, demographic student and alumni employment data, creating an annual employer recruitment report, and ongoing monitoring and evaluation of this initiative
  • Demonstrating assessment technique and continuous improvement efforts through the development and submission of an annual assessment plan and report for the Office of Career Development per the Institutional Effectiveness Policy
  • Managing the Office of Career Development budget
  • Serving as system administrator and trainer for end-users utilizing the Handshake platform, and as web content editor for the Career Development website and internal sites
  • Representing the Office of Career Development to faculty, staff, and students at various events and/or meetings
  • Participating in university committees, task forces, and initiatives such as student retention

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree with two years of experience with career services, academic advising, or academic support in a secondary or post-secondary environment.
