Job Duties:
The Applied Learning Assistant Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for UW Oshkosh’s career-connected applied learning initiatives. This position develops strategy, policy, and protocol; administers services; and cultivates employer partnerships to establish and grow a high-quality, institutionally aligned experiential learning program.
Serving as the central coordinating unit for internships and cooperative education (excluding clinicals, practicums, and licensure-based placements), this role ensures consistency in standards, mentorship, reflection, and career readiness competency development across academic and co-curricular experiences. The role aligns applied learning with institutional experiential learning outcomes and Career Learning Outcomes, while supporting faculty supervision and maintaining a university-wide dashboard to track participation, competency attainment, and post-graduation outcomes.
This role determines program procedures, leads program development and enhancement, manages budget administration, supervises personnel, and cultivates regional and national employer partnerships. Through collaboration with academic leadership, Institutional Effectiveness, and Career & Professional Development, this position strengthens student career outcomes, enhances employer engagement, and advances the university’s strategic commitment to student success and workforce readiness.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Maintain expertise in emerging trends in professional development, workforce readiness, and career technologies, including artificial intelligence tools that enhance resume development, interviewing preparation, career assessment, and student skill articulation.
- Provide individual and small-group advising to students through in-person, virtual, and hybrid modalities to support career exploration, internship and cooperative education participation, decision-making, and professional goal setting.
- Represent and promote UW-Oshkosh’s academic programs, applied learning model, and career outcomes to a broad range of stakeholders including prospective students, families, faculty, employers, alumni, and community partners; effectively articulate the university’s value proposition to strengthen partnerships and enrollment outcomes.
- Coordinate, design, and deliver career-connected programming and workshops for students, faculty, and employers that advance applied learning participation, career readiness competency development, and workforce alignment.
- Integrate innovative tools and industry-informed practices into career programming and applied learning initiatives to ensure students are prepared for evolving workplace expectations.
Department: Career and Professional Development
Compensation: Starting at $60,000 commensurate with experience
Required Qualifications:
- Master's Degree
- Four years experience in career development, internship management, or a related areas in higher education setting
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills .
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders including employers, faculty, and students.
- Trackable experience with data collection and analysis, particularly related to career outcomes.
