Careers Consultant

About us:

King’s Business School (KBS) has grown rapidly in its first eight years, and our Careers function has been a significant part of developing an outstanding student experience. We are a friendly, ambitious team of thirteen who care deeply about our students’ futures and work collaboratively in a flexible, fast-evolving environment.

About the role:

We are seeking a Careers Consultant to support our undergraduate community at an exciting moment of expansion. As we grow our student cohort and build a scalable, forward-thinking careers provision, you will play a key role in shaping what comes next.

Reporting to the Senior Careers Consultant (Undergraduate), you will design, deliver and manage the core careers programme—workshops, webinars and supporting materials—and provide high-quality advice and guidance through 1:1s, small-group sessions and large workshops. You will also lead a small team of proactive student career coaches who help co-design, promote and deliver elements of our provision; this is a new and developing area with room for creativity and influence.

This role is ideal for someone who has a real passion for coaching others and thrives in an environment that is still evolving and where you can help shape the structure as we grow. You will be comfortable navigating ambiguity, taking initiative and building effective, student-centred solutions.

There will be plenty of collaboration with a range of internal colleagues and to some extent external employers and alumni, so confidence and enjoyment of developing relationships is important. Project management skills are crucial as there will be a range of projects to be part of and lead on too.

Our undergraduate students are diverse, motivated and eager to explore their career paths, and this position is central to ensuring they receive an excellent, future-focused service.

We welcome both full-time and 0.8 FTE applicants. The role is hybrid, with two days a week on campus (with occasional increases during the Autumn term). Flexible and compressed working arrangements are also possible. Careers Consultants are expected to work occasional evenings and weekends for Open Days and alumni/employer evening events.

First round interviews will be held via a 30-minute call on w/c 12th January

Second-round interviews will be held in person at our Bush House, London campus on Wednesday 21st January

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Strong coaching skills with a passion and interest in career management and developing others. Ideally with a professional qualification and/or equivalent experience in careers advising, coaching or mentoring
  2. Project management experience with a track record of leading and delivering projects from concept to evaluation
  3. Strong knowledge of the current job market and a good understanding of recruitment and selection processes
  4. The ability to use qualitative and quantitative information to critically evaluate, demonstrate and improve the effectiveness of activities
  5. The ability to facilitate both small and large group sessions in an interactive and engaging way
  6. The ability to work collaboratively and positively with a range of different stakeholders and team members with diverse interests and needs.
  7. The ability to maintain motivation and resilience when faced with conflicting demands in a challenging schedule

Desirable criteria

  1. A relevant professional qualification in careers and/or coaching (we are open to candidates without a qualification but expect them to commit to acquiring an approved qualification once employed)
  2. Experience of working within higher education
  3. Experience working with young people or early career professionals
