Position Summary
Join the Ramily! WSSU is seeking an experienced Carpenter to join the Facilities Maintenance team. If you are looking for a position where you can grow, this could be the job for you! There are plenty of opportunities for cross-training and promotion! The Carpenter will report to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. This team is responsible for carpentry maintenance and repair for all campus buildings: academic, administrative, and residential. Employees must work ‘on call’ during the appointed dates and times when requested. This also includes callback work if needed.
Responsibilities include:
- Responding to routine and emergency requests for carpentry maintenance and repair
- Repairing windows, walls, and furniture
- Fabricating shelving, walls, and framing as necessary, and mounting shelves, walls, and frames
- Installing and finish drywall, ceilings, flooring, cabinetry and countertops
- Performing trim work, hanging doors, installing hardware, and setting windows to meet project specifications
- Assisting with minor roof repairs, such as leaks, membrane installations, and gutter and downspout inspections and repairs
- Maintaining records of repairs and maintenance performed
- Managing work orders in Team Dynamix
- Adhering to safety procedures at all times and employing protective equipment when necessary to ensure a safe and healthy living, learning, and working environment

Facilities Management exists for the purpose of designing, construction, maintaining and operating the facilities necessary to house and support the University’s academic and service programs

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

- Two years of progressive experience in the preparation and painting of interior and exterior walls, carpentry, doors, etc
- Attention to detail and ability to measure accurately
- Demonstrated understanding of the safe use of power tools and hand tools
- Knowledge of wall repair, furniture repair, painting, and caulking

This is primarily a carpenter position. The chosen candidate must know the various tools and machinery that goes with carpentry work. The repairs to be made will be things such as wall repair, hanging items in classrooms and offices, window repairs or minor roof repairs, and others as relayed by their supervisor. This position may also be asked to help out in other trades if needed, this is an excellent opportunity to cross train in other areas.

Understand obstacles or roadblocks by following prescribed processes to ensure timely task accomplishment.
