Custodial staff are responsible for cleaning and maintaining classrooms, laboratories, offices, and other assigned campus facilities. The Floor and Carpet Care Technician specializes in floor care and serves as a member of the Carpet and Hard Floor Crew, providing comprehensive maintenance and restoration of flooring surfaces throughout the university.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assesses the state of the floors and carpets and determine cleaning material and technique that will be utilized.
- Operates various carpet and floor care machines such as truck mount carpet cleaning machine, portable carpet extractor, carpet drying equipment; air movers/dehumidifier; Floor care includes stripping machine, waxer/buffer, water pick-ups, etc.
- Clean vehicle and/or detail at end of each shift.
- Sweeps, mops, polishes and strips floors in rooms and halls.
- Vacuums, spot cleans and/or extracts carpets, and furniture using commercial vacuum cleaners and extraction equipment.
- Reports malfunctions of bathroom fixtures, light fixtures and/or damages to room and hall furnishings to Supervisor.
- Initiates work orders for repair of equipment/maintenance.
- Moves furniture, equipment or fixtures as required.
- Provides quality customer service.
- Assures all safety precautions are followed in the workplace.
- Communicates effectively in a professional manner and is a team player.
- Dries carpet with drying machine.
- Other duties may be assigned.
