Lakeland College Dairy Learning Centre is looking for a Full Time Agricultural Technician, Dairy (Herdsperson) to join our team! This is a dynamic 120 cow dairy that includes robotic and parlor milking systems, robotic feeding, and robotic calf feeding, and is an integral part of the Student Managed Farm model. You will have the opportunity to work in a modern dairy facility, utilizing some of the latest technology as well as train and mentor students as they learn core competencies and skills to become industry ready.
Key Responsibilities
• Day to day operations in Dairy Learning Centre which includes milking, breeding, treatments, calving and calf care, assisting, training, and directing students as per the shift schedule determined by the dairy unit manager.
• Ensuring proper operations of milking equipment, ensuring cows are milked out properly and thoroughly, as well as that all milking equipment is kept clean and up to standards.
• Daily maintenance, cleaning, etc of robotic milking system. Willingness to learn technology.
• Utilizing electronic recording methods to maintain animal records using Dairy Comp, DelPro and other recording methods.
• Adhere the Dairy Learning Centre cleaning schedule to ensure the facility is presentable to College visitors and prospective students
• Maintenance of robotic milking system, waterers, manure handling equipment, feed bunks, feeders, shelters, parlor, and all other equipment to provide for welfare of dairy animals.
• Assist farm technicians with bedding, treating, moving livestock or any other farm related duties that may be required as the need arises across the whole farm
Job Requirements
• Post-secondary agriculture related education, preferably Diploma in Animal Science
• Dairy experience and knowledge of farm equipment operation and robotic technology is highly desirable, willingness to learn technology and work with it is required.
• Manual labour, shift work, weekend work and on-call work is required; valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to perform artificial insemination would be an asset
Additional Information
This is a Full-time Permanent AUPE appointment at the Vermilion campus commencing as soon as possible. The current salary range is $50,198 - $63,259 per annum, based on 40 hours a week, and includes a generous benefit package and pension plan.
