Job Summary
The Business Program at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences in the field of organizational behavior, industrial and organizational psychology, or organizational sociology. Initial appointment to this position will be for a term of 4 years [8 semesters], beginning as early as the Fall semester of 2024 but no later than the Fall semester of 2025. Priority consideration will be given to candidates at the rank of Assistant Professor, but candidates at other ranks will also be considered.
About
Founded in 1833, Oberlin is a private four-year, highly selective national liberal arts college near Cleveland, Ohio and is also home to an outstanding Conservatory of Music. Together, the two divisions enroll approximately 2900 students. Oberlin College was the first college in the US to
make interracial education and co-education central to its mission. Since its launch in 2021, the business curricular pathway (integrative concentration) at Oberlin has been a powerful draw for students across various departments in the College and the Conservatory. Given the high level of student interest at Oberlin, as well as the importance of training future business leaders in a liberal arts ethos, Oberlin is establishing a business major. The new hire in this area will be pivotal in shaping this program. The Business program committee, which oversees curriculum and personnel includes faculty within Business, Contemporary Music, Computer Science, Economics, Philosophy, and Psychology. This is a unique opportunity to be a foundational member of a new academic program within a leading liberal arts institution.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will teach the standard teaching load (4.5 courses per year) in the general area of organizational behavior, industrial and organizational psychology, or organizational sociology. Qualified candidates will situate their research and teaching within management and organizational design and be prepared to teach core courses for the major, including Introduction to Business, Business Ethics and Organizational Behavior, and Negotiations as well as upper-level seminar courses within their area of expertise.
The incumbent will also be expected to engage in sustained scholarly research and/or other creative work appropriate to the position and participate in the full range of faculty responsibilities, including academic advising, mentoring undergraduate research, and service on committees. Candidates excited to help build and shape a new business major and who value interdisciplinary, liberal arts education are particularly encouraged to apply.
Qualifications
Among the qualifications required for appointment is the Ph.D/DBA degree (in hand or expected by first semester of academic year 2025-26. Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable. Compensation
Within the range established for this position, salary will be commensurate with qualifications andexperience and includes a competitive benefits package.
