The Cambridge Stem Cell Institute (CSCI) is an international centre of excellence for stem cell research and regenerative medicine. Scientists in the Institute collaborate to advance our knowledge of various stem cell types and their developmental origins, and to perform pioneering work in translational research areas, providing the foundation for new medical treatments (https://www.stemcells.cam.ac.uk/).

The Tissue Culture Facility enhances the quality and efficiency of cell culture research within the CSCI. We provide support and resources to a large number of busy stem cell culture laboratories, catering to a wide range of specialities from ES cell derivation to virus production.

The role

To provide maternity cover for the Cell Culture Technician. Reporting to the Tissue Culture Research Laboratory Technician with daily supervision, you will be expected to provide assistance in the provision of sterile aliquots.

You will need to:

  • Produce high volumes of sterile aliquots.
  • Carry out routine cell culture.
  • Follow SOPs to run routine assays.
  • Maintain written and electronic records to ensure stock levels are accurate.
  • Follow QC procedures recording all data to ensure full traceability.
  • Process routine reagent requests, delivering reagents to the designated locations.
  • Package parcels and organise collections for external orders.

The ideal candidate will be qualified to A level or NVQ level 3, with previous practical experience of working in a tissue culture laboratory. Experience of culturing cells lines and stem cells is desirable, but training can be provided. This role will require a high degree of precision and accuracy, so organisational skills and attention to detail are essential. We are seeking someone with good communication skills who will work well as part of a team.

This role is based in the laboratory and does not have an option for remote working. Working hours will be a minimum of 25 hours per week Monday to Friday.
