Celular and metabolic changes of the periodontium throughout life.

About the Project

Project details:

Chronic inflammatory periodontal disease (PD) is widespread globally with associations with systemic disease, ultimately leading to tooth loss. Current therapeutic strategies and products used in PD treatment and prevention rely on antimicrobial effects. To date, no management strategy has been created that effectively tackles the inflammatory response responsible to lead to the dysbiosis that causes PD. Metabolic modulation has shown to have a positive effect on inflammatory responses. However, not much is understood about the lifelong metabolics and celular changes of ageing on the periodontal tissues and how it impacts management. This application focuses on understanding the effect of celular and metabolicchanges of ageing in oral tissues in order to help elucidate ways to manage oral and systemic disease throughout life.
