  • Term: Fixed-term, full-time basis for two (2) years
  • Remuneration: $138,193 to $156,633 pa (HEW8) (inclusive of $116,774 to $132,357 salary pa, 17% superannuation and 17.5% recreation leave loading)
  • Location: Gardens Point (hybrid option available)

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Centre Manager to join School of Chemistry and Physics, Faculty of Science.

The Centre Manager provides leadership and management of the Centre’s core operational activities, working closely with the Directors and other senior leaders to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of the Centre’s vision and objectives. Professor Kathryn Fairfull-Smith and Distinguished Professor Dmitri Golberg are Co-Directors of the QUT Centre for Materials Science. The Centre Manager will lead and have responsibility for managing the operation of the Centre, delivery of administrative services, project delivery support and all operational matters including external engagement activities. The position has operational responsibility for the Centre’s budget (including operating and discretionary budgets) and collaborates with share services staff across the Faculty and University to execute the effective operations of the Centre.

The QUT Centre for Materials Science is the fundamental scientific engine room for materials innovation, providing materials-based solutions for QUT's application driven Centres and research strengths. The goal of the Centre is to innovate, accelerate and translate scientific material discoveries to transformative technologies that will assist in overcoming global and national challenges in chemical syntheses, construction industries, green energy demands, environmental change, and sustainable manufacturing. The Centre invents, designs and optimises diverse new materials, including nanomaterials, polymers and metals and find the smartest pathways of controlling and tuning their properties and functions toward reliable and predictable Real-World applications..

What you need to succeed

  1. Education, training and/or experience equivalent to postgraduate qualifications, or progress towards postgraduate qualifications with extensive relevant experience (including discipline knowledge in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics and/or Engineering).
  2. Demonstrated ability to build successful partnerships with external organisations and provide positive leadership to connect internally with staff and varied groups across an organisation.
  3. Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver events, including developing event strategy, managing logistics, guest and speaker invitations, program curation, coordinating venues and vendors.
  4. High level written communication skills to prepare clear and concise reports, plans and complex correspondence using a variety of digital technologies.
  5. Demonstrated financial management and budgeting experience and well developed analytical and research skills.
  6. High level ability to manage time and tasks effectively and meet a range of competing deadlines in a timely manner without compromising quality.
