Primary Purpose of the Organization
The primary purpose of the Counseling and Personal Development Center is to provide programs and services to assist in the emotional, psychological, and intellectual development of students with diverse backgrounds. Specifically, the Counseling Center provides individual and group counseling, preventive, developmental, and other services (i.e., transformative presentations and in-service trainings) to augment the total educational process, thereby maintaining a climate conducive to the academic growth and development of all students.
Primary Purpose of the Position
This position is responsible for the delivery of comprehensive behavioral health/ substance use counseling services.
Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
- Planning and Development: Participating as part of the Division of Student Affairs. Developing program in accordance with Student Affairs goals and objectives.
- Services to Students: Conducting comprehensive counseling evaluations that include but are not limited to the assessment of intellectual, developmental, academic, social/emotional and behavioral status. Assessment and data collection by use of standardized evaluation techniques. Interpreting and utilizing assessment data for the purpose of writing counseling reports and developing written intervention plans. Counseling students individually and in groups. Providing crisis intervention.
- Service to Instructors: Consulting with instructors and administrators regarding specific students. Assisting in the development of instructor implemented interventions. Assisting with university wide programs. Providing in-service training.
- Professional Development: Attending in-service meetings and conferences to assist in the development of professional attitudes and skills. Maintaining professional skills through reading of current literature and professional memberships.
- Program Evaluation: Participating in program evaluation. Assisting in the design and implementation of program evaluation.
Other Duties and Responsibilities: Assisting with university wide programs. Provide transformative presentations.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
- A Master’s degree is required in Psychology, Counseling, or Clinical Social Work.
- Fully licensed in the State of North Carolina in the appropriate discipline and maintained according to NC laws.
- One to three years of post-graduate clinical experience providing comprehensive substance use counseling services to include Collegiate Recovery.
- Trained to conduct Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS)
- Possess strong clinical skills.
- Experience in program assessment and evaluation.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of current literature and access to professional memberships. Ability to interpret and utilize assessment data; ability to conduct comprehensive counseling evaluations.
