Certified Medical Assistant
Job Summary
Provides supervised health care services to patients and performs a variety of administrative and clinical support duties related to the Student Health clinic operations. This includes but is not limited to: performing various laboratory tests, medication and immunization administration, supporting patient's clinical appointments from access of care to discharge, ability to perform immunization compliance functions, follow blood-borne pathogen exposure protocols for students, documenting patient information clearly and accurately, and providing patient education on a wide variety of healthcare topics all within the scope of practice for a certified medical assistant.
Responsibilities
The duties include but are not limited to:
- PATIENT CARE: Provide patient care including rooming patients, measuring vital signs, taking chief complaints, venipuncture, injections, immunizations, dressing changes, performing CLIA-waived in-house testing, setting up and assisting providers during sensitive exams and all office procedures, maintaining rooms by established infection control principles, providing education and guidance on health topics and immunizations. Schedule appointments as needed, check patients in and out of appointments, answer telephone and assist callers with needs. Communicate with administrative and clinical staff on health-related topics, and work within best practices as established in the healthcare industry.
- DOCUMENTATION: Documentation of patient care in electronic health record, to include but not limited to lab results from testing, direct and indirect patient care, progress notes, consents, scanning and attaching documents, completion of residency/rotation forms and, patient notification of laboratory results after review by ordering provider.
- SAFETY AND QUALITY PROCESSES: Participate in clinic safety and quality processes, to include cleaning examination rooms, monitoring inventory supplies/equipment/medications to determine when orders need to be placed, checking equipment for use, and documenting within Microsoft Word and Excel inventory, and education/training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma, GED or equivalent from a recognized state or federal accrediting organization with a minimum of two years of experience in administrative and clinical support within an outpatient primary setting and a CCMA-Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) Credential, AAMA-American Association of Medical Assistant, MedCa Medical Career Assessment, RMA/NCMA Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) Credential, or NCMA-National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) Credential. Must possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working supervised in an outpatient healthcare clinic among a multidisciplinary team of staff and providers, using an electronic health record for documentation and e-prescribing as a provider agent. Experience in recognizing emergent symptoms of patient decomposition/instability and performing Basic Life Support CPR. Experience in administering vaccines, oral, subcutaneous and intramuscular medications. Experience with immunizations in children and adults.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. Awareness of infection prevention policies, and ability to follow established best practice guidelines for quality and safety in a healthcare organization.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills. Proficient technology skills with multiple platforms, such as Microsoft, Adobe, and EHR platforms for documentation, tracking and presentations.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality. Detail oriented with ability to complete delegated tasks on time, and attention to accuracy with documentation and written communication. Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team of providers, clinical staff, administrative staff to serve a varying student population. Demonstrate an excellent customer service attitude.
Certifications/License
Must possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; M-F
Pay Band: B3
Salary: $16.54/hourly-$18.26/hourly
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
