This is a Part-Time Instructor Pool in our Continuing Education Workforce Development (CEWD) department for available assignments during the academic year. This position is limited to no more than 19 hours per week. Applications are considered throughout the academic year and reviewed based on departmental needs. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include working days, evenings and/or weekends. If a degree, certification or licensure is required, the provision of official transcripts and/or certifications must be received in the Office of Human Resources within (30) days of hire. Applicants with academic credentials from non-U.S. accredited institutions are required to have their coursework evaluated in terms of U.S. "equivalency." ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
SUMMARY
Provides instruction in OSHA 10- and OSHA 30-hour safety standards, preparing students to identify workplace hazards, apply safe work practices, understand regulatory requirements, and promote a strong culture of occupational safety and health. This position is limited to no more than 19 hours per week and is as needed based on community needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and deliver OSHA 10- and OSHA 30-hour training appropriate to the assigned industry and student population.
- Provide instruction on OSHA standards, workplace safety requirements, hazard recognition, and effective hazard-control practices.
- Teach students to identify, evaluate, and communicate common workplace hazards and appropriate corrective actions.
- Cover applicable topics such as fall protection, electrical safety, hazard communication, PPE, material handling, machine guarding, fire prevention, emergency procedures, and construction/industry-specific hazards.
- Teach students how to locate, interpret, and apply applicable OSHA regulations and workplace safety requirements.
- Provide instruction on Safety Data Sheets (SDS), chemical hazards, labeling, personal protective equipment, and Hazard Communication (HazCom).
- Incorporate case studies, demonstrations, workplace scenarios, and hands-on activities to reinforce safety concepts.
- Teach principles of accident and incident prevention, workplace inspections, reporting, and corrective-action processes.
- Develop and maintain course materials, lesson plans, presentations, activities, assessments, and required OSHA training documentation.
- Conduct assessments and evaluate student understanding of OSHA requirements and workplace safety practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. Employee may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to twenty (20) pounds.

QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated professional experience in occupational safety, construction safety, manufacturing safety, industrial operations, or a related field.
- Current knowledge of applicable OSHA standards and workplace safety practices appropriate to the OSHA 10- and OSHA 30-hour courses being taught.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a related field.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, as well as intermediate computer skills.
- Must be familiar with interactive teaching methods and instruction via the Internet.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Certifications: OSHA-authorized trainer status, OSHA 510/511 or other applicable OSHA training, CHST, ASP, CSP, or equivalent recognized safety credentials, as appropriate to the instructional area.
- Experience conducting workplace safety training, hazard assessments, inspections, incident prevention, or safety program implementation.
- Working knowledge of Blackboard course management system
