We wish to recruit a Research Operations Manager to join the Cambridge-GSK Translational Immunology Collaboration (CG-TIC), a new partnership between the University of Cambridge and GSK. Focused on renal and respiratory diseases, the collaboration leverages the world class capabilities of Cambridge University to provide transformational impact for patients, while aligning with GSK R&D strategic priorities.

The Research Operations Manager (ROM) will coordinate sample management and quality assurance across all aspects of CG-TIC with full responsibility for managing the lifecycle of all research samples. From collection to storage and analysis, the ROM will ensure consistency in quality and standardisation of research methodology across CG-TIC. Working closely with project leads and their research teams, and collaborating with partners at GSK, you will oversee development and implementation of sample management protocols and processes, including SOPs, to ensure consistency in research protocols. You will implement a quality assurance system for CG-TIC, building upon an existing framework established in iPassport, and will be responsible for a laboratory information management system (LIMS) for the tracking of samples. You will also train new researchers to ensure they are fully engaged with the necessary SOPs and processes that will underpin CG-TIC.

You will also have the opportunity to undertake your own research work, providing support, where required, to the spatial biology, ex vivo perfusion and gene editing workflows.

Dependent on the chosen candidate, it may be possible to undertake a PhD as part of this role.

Who you'll be working with
The role is based in the Department of Medicine, working with researchers based in the Cambridge Institute of Therapeutic Immunology & Infectious Disease (CITIID), the Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Heart & Lung Research Institute (HLRI), and other University researchers who are part of the CG-TIC. You will work closely with project leads and their teams to understand all aspects of sample generation and analysis and will gain an in-depth understanding of the research platforms that support CG-TIC. You will also liaise with partners at GSK to ensure that they are clear on the research protocols that CG-TIC follows and to keep them updated on progress.

What experience you will have:
With a degree (BSc or MSc) in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., molecular biology, biomedical sciences) and significant experience of laboratory management and research within a biomedical research setting, you will have a proven record of coordinating complex research projects. This will have ideally involved implementing sample management and quality protocols and processes. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with a range of partners in the university, in the NHS and in industry, and will understand how to manage the differing expectations of each. Experience of working in a laboratory setting that adheres to quality assured practices, such as Good Clinical Laboratory Practice, would be very advantageous, as would experience with iPassport or similar, and with LIMS, although training will be provided.

While this is advertised as a full-time role, we would consider applications from candidates who are looking to work less than full-time hours and are open to applicants who live outside Cambridge but are willing to travel to Cambridge when required.
