"Chair, Associate/Full Professor of Accounting"

Alabama State University invites applications for the position of Chair, Associate/Full Professor of Accounting in the College of Business Administration. This leadership position presents an opportunity for an accomplished academic leader to guide a department committed to excellence in accounting education. The successful candidate will provide visionary leadership that aligns with the university's strategic goals while maintaining Scholarly Academic (SA) status in accordance with AACSB standards. This position offers the opportunity to shape curriculum development, foster research productivity, and build collaborative relationships with the accounting profession and business community in Montgomery and beyond.

The Chair of the Department of Accounting teaches within their academic discipline and is responsible for successfully addressing established student learning outcomes in each course and section taught. Faculty teach courses at times, locations, and via modalities that best respond to student and departmental needs. The Chair conducts both teaching and research and must maintain Scholarly Academic (SA) status at all times as per AACSB standards.

Core responsibilities include teaching assigned courses and successfully addressing established learning outcomes while facilitating and inspiring learning through proven and innovative teaching and academic support methodologies. The Chair plans all lessons and assignments with a focus on student success and develops course curricula and syllabi for each course section delivered, ensuring compliance with college and department standards.

The Chair assesses students' progress and adjusts instructional techniques, resources, and assignments as appropriate. Remaining up-to-date with developments in accounting and teaching best practices is essential through reading scholarly articles, engaging with colleagues, participating in professional conferences, conducting classroom-based research, and publishing original research in academic journals.

Additional responsibilities include advising students about degree completion requirements and strategies to achieve short-term and long-term academic and career goals, providing service to the university and community, supervising work-study students and/or assistants, and participating in shared governance through service on academic and administrative committees that review policies, deliberate budgets, and advise on hiring and promotions within the department.
