Chair, Department of Physics

The Department of Physics at High Point University invites applications for a department chair to begin August 2026. This is a 10-month, non-tenure track, open-rank position eligible for multi-year contract extensions and promotion to Associate or Professor ranks. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader and accomplished scholar who will guide a dynamic and collaborative department committed to excellence and innovation in teaching, research, and service. This role will oversee curriculum and program development, faculty and staff development, research initiatives, and student recruitment and success. The chair will also work collaboratively with other departments and the dean to advance the mission of the Wanek School of Natural Sciences and High Point University. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate physics across the curriculum, maintain an active research program involving undergraduate students, and contribute to the Department, School, and wider University through service responsibilities.

The B.S. Physics program at High Point University values engaging and effective teaching, the integration of computation, experiment, and theory across the curriculum, and undergraduate research (http://www.highpoint.edu/physics/). The program seeks a dynamic individual who will embrace these values and is passionate about mentoring undergraduates and working collaboratively with colleagues. Successful applicants will have access to startup and institutional research and professional development funding, and laboratory and office space in the 128,000-square-foot Wanek School of Natural Sciences, which includes innovative classroom and laboratory spaces and the Culp Planetarium. A Ph.D. in physics or closely related field is required, as is demonstrated leadership experience in an academic setting.

Applications should include the following items, submitted as a single pdf document: (i) a cover letter addressing the applicant’s qualifications and vision for the department, (ii) curriculum vitae, (iii) a statement of teaching philosophy, (iv) a statement of research interests, and (v) an unofficial transcript with the highest awarded degree. Additionally, the names and contact information for at least three professional references should be provided.

For additional information, please contact Dr. Briana Fiser, Dean of the Wanek School of Natural Sciences, at bfiser@highpoint.edu.

Apply online at https://highpoint.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/Highpoint-Faculty. Review of applications will begin October 1st and continue until the position is filled. Applicants who do not meet the qualifications or are not legally authorized to work in the US will not be considered.
