Chair of Nursing Department (Tenure Track)
Job Summary
As Chair of Nursing, this open-rank, tenure-track role offers a unique opportunity to lead and shape the College’s largest and most dynamic department. The Chair provides strategic and academic leadership for faculty, clinical partners, and student support staff while fostering a collaborative, student-centered culture. In addition to teaching across the fall and spring semesters, the Chair oversees the CCNE-accredited Baccalaureate Nursing program and plays a pivotal role in expanding the College’s nursing offerings, including the anticipated launch of an Accelerated RN program, an RN-to-BS pathway, and the long-term development of a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. This position is ideal for a visionary nurse educator eager to make a lasting impact on nursing education and workforce development.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Chair of Nursing
- Hire and review faculty and staff
- Create course schedules for all Nursing Programs
- Develop and assess department programs and courses
- Prepare and teach courses in accordance with course descriptions and schedules, including developing syllabi, reading lists, and keeping course content current.
- Engage with multiple constituencies, including students, faculty, staff, and external agencies (business, community, education, etc.).
- Participate in departmental responsibilities, including selecting course texts and related teaching resources.
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
- Direct and serve on assigned committees and task forces.
- Participate in committee, staff, informational, and professional meetings, including occasional evening or weekend events.
- Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.).
- Perform other teaching and related duties as assigned.
- Work outside the department is not permitted.
Preferred and Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Nursing from an accredited institution.
- Current, unencumbered New York State RN license or eligibility to obtain one.
- At least five years of college teaching experience.
- Experience in teaching, curriculum development, and assessment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a diverse college community.
- Commitment to the College’s mission and its students, faculty, and staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with online instruction and platforms such as Blackboard, Canvas, or Moodle.
- Background in curriculum development, program assessment, and evaluation.
- Experience facilitating high- and low-fidelity simulations.
