- Position Backup: Center for Caring with Technology Staff
Position Summary
The individual in this position uses a caring science approach to create an environment where actions and strategies lead to developing and strengthening student relationships that create a path to grow as a professional nurse. Responsibilities encompass developing, facilitating, and evaluating clinical simulation and interprofessional collaborative education activities. Additionally, this position comprises teaching responsibilities in the CCT. As a member of the School of Nursing, she/he contributes to the successful achievement of course and program outcomes, and philosophy and mission of the School of Nursing and University.
Essential Functions
Teaching Related:
- Facilitate effective student learning in the clinical/lab setting and the online learning environment using evidence based strategies.
- Guide students to recognize and evaluate social determinants of health, and individual and environmental cues.
- Utilize the designated clinical judgment framework when applicable.
- Provide guidance for students in the CCT setting related to professionalism, practice, clinical judgement, and evidence-based practice.
- Ensure effective evaluations of student practice and skill validations.
- Provide feedback about the teaching/learning process to Course Coordinators when designated.
- Share responsibility for the planning and implementation of assigned courses, program planning activities, and other needs of the academic programs.
- Participate in the development and progress of the academic programs by contributing to the development of curriculum, teaching materials, and evaluation measures.
Simulation Related
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge in regards to nursing curriculum, simulation scenarios, policies, and requirements.
- Assist faculty and CCT staff to implement the curriculum using simulation as a pedagogy.
- Use the School of Nursing designated debriefing(s) method to optimize the debriefing experience and maximize learning during simulation.
- Provide support to standardized patients or other simulation participants.
- Maintain clinical competence and knowledge pertaining to an area of expertise.
- Monitor on-going daily operation of the CCT and maintain communication between staff and Director.
Other:
- Demonstrate commitment to continued professional learning.
- Maintain active membership in selected professional nursing organizations, as needed.
- Perform similar, comparable or related duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Current, unencumbered professional registered nurse license in Maryland
- A Master's Degree in Nursing is required. May have a plan for completion of Master of Science in Nursing Degree within three (3) years.
- Previous experience in the use of simulation as a pedagogy (preferred).
- Teaching competence-Evidence of a minimum two years of teaching experience (preferred).
- Clinical competence-Able to function with professional accountability in clinical settings.
Skills/Aptitude
- Commitment to Caring Science as a way of being in the School of Nursing.
- Knowledge of Standards of Best Practice: Simulation (INACSL).
- Knowledge of the use of high fidelity, midlevel fidelity, and low fidelity simulators and other technology based learning systems.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, faculty, staff, students, and others.
- Ability to work within established procedures, guidelines, and follow directions
- Ability to handle several assignments simultaneously.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments.
- Possess excellent communication (written and oral) and efficient organizational skills.
Position Hours and Pay
Typical work hours for this position are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
