Chair of Service User and Carer Advisory Committee

The Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programme team has an exciting opportunity available for an individual with lived experience of mental health issues or as a carer for someone to mental health support needs, to become chair of our Service user and Carer advisory committee. The post’s commitment is one day a week which could be for one day or divided into two half days. Our core team day is a Tuesday, so some of the working week will need to occur on this day with flexibility available for the other half day. The postholder will be required to attend the University campus in Guildford. Hybrid working is possible across the rest of the week.

The programme has seen an expansion in training places over the past few years, due to increased funding from NHS England. The post therefore, offers a unique opportunity to join the team at a time of growth and innovation. The post-holder will work in close partnership with the academic team to support the delivery of the academic and research components of the programme and facilitate the annual recruitment of trainee clinical psychologists. The post holder will also be expected to link with local Public and Patient Involvement groups, and the Psychological Professions network to support the delivery of their work.

We welcome applications from a variety of backgrounds. Having an undergraduate, master's, or doctoral qualification will be an advantage, as the post holder will be arranging meetings to support trainees with their research development. Additionally, having previous experience of working in complex organisations and communicating with a variety of audiences will be helpful in the role. Successful applicants will be required to work as a member of a team, communicate with colleagues, deliver academic teaching across the life span and utilise a variety of theoretical and psychotherapeutic knowledge bases. They will also need to be passionate about supporting the development of trainee clinical psychologists to enable them to become confident and competent as culturally attuned practitioners.

The PsychD team are a welcoming, innovative and cohesive group with a wide variety of clinical and research interests. The programme sits within the Discipline of Clinical and Health Psychology, within the School of Psychology. The school of psychology has an outstanding reputation for applied psychology training and research. You will be joining a vibrant department with an active research culture, and a team who are committed to inclusion, diversity and equality; and exploring the needs of under-served communities. There are multiple opportunities for ongoing professional development, including the eligibility of applicants to undertake a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (if not already held).
