Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is seeking highly motivated and suitably qualified individuals with research expertise in areas such as infrastructure and urban resilience under climate change, AI and data science in civil and structural engineering, robotics technologies in civil engineering, intelligent and autonomous construction, or emerging materials and technologies in structural engineering.

Duties

• Teach relevant subjects in Structural Engineering at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Develop and lead a world-leading research programme in structural engineering, attracting external funding and leading to impactful outcomes.
• Undertake research, programme/curriculum development, and administration.
• Supervise student projects and theses.
• Engage in industrial and scholarly research/consultancy activities.
• Undertake academic and departmental administrative duties.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• A PhD degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and academic advising.
• Strong records of research, publications, and scholarship.
• Ability to be an effective teacher with good interpersonal skills.
• Good networking ability and potential to become a world-leading scholar.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to use English as the medium of instruction.
• Research interest in areas like Infrastructure and Urban Resilience under Climate Change, AI and Data Science in Civil and Structural Engineering, Robotics Technologies in Civil Engineering, Intelligent and Autonomous Construction, and Emerging Materials and Technologies in Structural Engineering.
• For Chair Professor: Outstanding record of global leadership and research achievement with substantial experience.
• For Professor or Associate Professor: Substantial years of experience and excellent record in the field; less experienced applicants considered for Assistant Professor.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Appointees under the Strategic Hiring Scheme will receive a start-up grant of not less than HK$3 million for research activities in the initial three years. Initial appointment for Assistant Professor is on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract, with re-engagement subject to mutual agreement.
