Kenyon College invites applications for a Chemical Facilities Manager. This is a full-time, 12-month position reporting to the Chair of the Chemistry Department, with an anticipated start in early August 2026. The Chemical Facilities Manager will primarily provide support for the instructional chemical laboratories and manage chemical stockroom facilities for the Natural Science Division.
General Responsibilities:
Instructional chemical laboratories support
- Manage the procurement of chemicals and consumable supplies needed for lab courses.
- In consultation with instructional staff, acquire and prepare reagents and supplies; coordinate procedures, safety information, and equipment setup for lab courses.
- Prepare laboratory spaces for instruction: distribute reagents, supplies, and safety equipment. Oversee collection of waste materials from instructional laboratories and their transfer to central accumulation facility.
Chemical stockroom facilities management
- Organize and maintain chemical stockrooms for safe storage of chemical inventory, laboratory equipment, and consumable supplies.
- Manage receipt of chemicals and laboratory supplies, entry into inventory database, proper labeling, and safe transit to the appropriate storage location.
- Maintain and update records in chemical inventory database; manage database software.
- Maintain appropriate certification for handling hazardous materials.
- Manage access to secure facilities and equipment.
- Hire, train, and supervise part-time student employees effectively.
Operations support coordination
Work collaboratively with other members of the Natural Science Division Operational Support Team to develop standard operating procedures, coordinate installation and servicing of specialized equipment, and coordinate multi-facility support with team members as needed.

Qualifications: Current or expected within six months of start date:
- Minimum: Bachelor's degree in chemistry or cognate field. Preferred: Master's degree.
- Minimum: Two years of wet-lab experience in a chemical laboratory. Preferred: More than 2 years of experience in an academic chemical stockroom.
- Experience with management of shared electronic documents, such as Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive.
- Chemical Hygiene Officer certification from National Registry of Certified Chemists (NRCC); or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager certification from Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM).
Working conditions: Work is generally performed in the chemical stockrooms. Being able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs may be necessary.
The successful candidate will: Work independently while coordinating with a team; work well with a variety of people, including faculty, staff, and students; maintain focus when working with hazardous materials under time pressure; plan for instructional laboratory needs over the time scales of days, weeks, and semesters; recognize problems and attempt solutions; propose new methods to accomplish goals; use technical language to communicate precise specifications for procurement, preparation, and handling of hazardous materials; research and critically evaluate information to support decision making; keep well organized records.
