Job Summary:
This position will be part of the Wisconsin Occupational Health Laboratory (WOHL) which is part of the Occupational Health Division at the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH). WOHL is a full-service, industrial hygiene chemistry and environmental microbiology laboratory. WOHL provides laboratory services to a wide spectrum of public agencies and private sector clients including the OSHA Onsite consultation program. The Laboratory is committed to providing highquality analytical results accompanied by an unsurpassed level of personalized customer service.
This position will support analysis of industrial hygiene testing following established OSHA and NIOSH methods. This includes prepare industrial hygiene air samples and analysis of these samples using ion chromatography, liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, ion specific electrodes, UV-vis, X-ray diffraction, ICP, and/or classical analytical techniques such as titration and gravimetric analysis. Position will perform calculations using a laboratory LIMS, spreadsheets, and other programs to report results as well as provide customer service to clients as needed.
The position requires effective personal and team skills to contribute to the efficient operation of the work unit and organization. The position requires someone who is self-motivated and can work independently. The successful candidate must be able to manage time efficiently, and pay attention to detail, but also be able to see the big picture. This position is full time, 40 hours per week. This position works under limited supervision and reports to the WOHL Organic Supervisor. The position is in-person and located at the State Laboratory of Hygiene located at 2601 Agriculture Drive Madison. This is an off campus location on Madison's south east side. The employee in this position is expected to use the tools and principles of quality management in performing their daily work. The employee must demonstrate exceptional customer service by establishing and maintaining effective professional relationships with managers, supervisors, co-workers and all customers and consistently model appropriate behaviors and assist other staff in developing effective relationships. The employee is expected to provide constructive feedback for the purpose of continuous improvement in a manner that is supportive of the State Laboratory of Hygiene and its mission, use data collection tools as appropriate; use effective team skills to contribute to the efficient operation of the work unit; present ideas, carry out assignments, provide information as required and participate in continuous learning through professional development activities.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Verifies test result validity and/or completes regulatory compliance activities - 5%
- Prepares, develops, and conducts chemical research experiments analysis of specimens employing quality control and quality assurance practices - 70%
- Participates in educational and outreach activities for various individuals and groups - 5%
- Utilizes, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory instrumentation and information management systems to meet unit objects in alignment with strategic initiatives - 5%
- Utilizes assigned analytical methods-based quality requirements to verify test result validity and/or meet regulatory compliance - 5%
- Prepares, reviews, verifies, and reports test result data - 10%

Compensation:
Minimum starting salary: $50,000/year. Actual salary to be determined upon hire.

Qualifications:
Laboratory experience preferred but not required.
Education:
