An Inaugural Role. A Growing University. An Opportunity to Shape What Comes Next.
Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) invites nominations and applications for its inaugural Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), a senior leadership opportunity for an accomplished HR executive who wants to do more than manage a function.
This is an opportunity to shape one.
TAMIU is a growing public university with more than 9,000 students, a strong sense of institutional pride, and a distinctive international mission. A member of The Texas A&M University System, the University occupies a unique place at the crossroads of higher education, global commerce, international policy, and the vibrant culture of South Texas.
At a time when many institutions are confronting enrollment pressure, TAMIU continues to grow. That momentum creates both opportunity and complexity, and makes this an especially compelling time for a strategic human resources leader to join the University.
The new CHRO will inherit a committed HR team, strong executive support, and a solid foundation on which to build. The opportunity is to take that foundation forward: strengthening and modernizing HR practices, developing talent and organizational capability, advancing technology and processes, and expanding Human Resources' role as a trusted strategic partner across the University.
For the right leader, the appeal of this position is its scope and potential for impact.
As TAMIU's inaugural CHRO, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to help define the position itself and shape the future direction of Human Resources. The CHRO will advise executive leadership on workforce strategy and organizational effectiveness; lead enterprise-wide workforce planning; strengthen recruitment, retention, compensation, employee engagement, leadership development, and succession planning; and help position TAMIU as an employer of choice.
Just as importantly, TAMIU is looking for a leader who understands that exceptional HR leadership is ultimately about people.
The University seeks an executive who is strategic but approachable, confident but collaborative, willing to listen before acting, and capable of building strong relationships across academic and administrative areas. The successful candidate will bring executive presence, sound judgment, emotional intelligence, and the ability to translate institutional priorities into thoughtful people strategies.
Why TAMIU?
TAMIU offers something increasingly difficult to find in senior HR leadership: the chance to make a visible institutional impact while building from a position of strength.
The University has a committed HR team, executive leadership that recognizes the strategic importance of Human Resources, a growing institution that creates meaningful opportunities for workforce innovation, and a campus community with deep pride in its University.
TAMIU is also an institution with a compelling story of its own. Its 300-acre campus serves students from across the United States and around the world, and its more than 40,000 graduates are making an impact worldwide. The University has earned national recognition for affordability, value, and its impact on socioeconomic mobility.
Its home, Laredo, is equally distinctive. Located at the nation's leading international trade port and one of the most important gateways between the United States and Mexico, Laredo offers a blend of American, Texan, and Mexican culture found nowhere else. The community combines a growing binational economy, strong community identity, comparatively low cost of living, year-round sunshine, and a region whose international character is woven into everyday life.
For an HR executive who has reached the point in a career where influence, purpose, and the opportunity to leave something stronger matter, this role deserves serious consideration.
