Primary Purpose of the Position
The Chief Payroll Administrator and Operations Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight of critical Human Resources functions, including payroll, leave administration, HRIS, Banner operations, data integrity, records management, and workers' compensation. This position ensures the accurate and timely delivery of payroll, compliance with federal, state, and UNC System regulations, and the integrity of HR data and systems.
As a key member of the HR leadership team, the role collaborates with the Associate Vice Chancellor and Deputy CHRO to align HR operations with institutional goals, enhance efficiency, mitigate risk, and support data-driven decision-making. The position also oversees the university's workers' compensation program, ensuring effective claims management, regulatory compliance, and appropriate employee accommodations.
This role is essential to maintaining operational continuity, strengthening compliance, and advancing high-quality HR service delivery across the university.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
- Master's Degree or Higher; Seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible experience in human resources, payroll administration, or HR operations leadership
- Prior experience in higher education and/or UNC System environment
- Demonstrated experience managing complex payroll operations, compliance, and multi-functional HR teams
