Chief Quality Officer – Hyde Park - #BSD039
The University of Chicago’s Biological Sciences Division (BSD) and the University of Chicago Medical Center (UCM) seek applicants for the role of Chief Quality Officer (CQO) for The University of Chicago Medical Center (UCMC) - Hyde Park. The appointee will serve as the UCMC Physician Patient Safety Officer who in collaboration with the Departmental Clinical Chairs ensures excellence in clinical care, quality, safety and experience outcomes. Working as a dyad partner with the UCM Vice President, Clinical Performance Excellence (CPE) this role is the physician responsible for the overall strategy, direction, and execution of clinical excellence (e.g. stewardship, outcome measures, risk reduction) for UCMC Hyde Park. The CQO will drive a culture of continuous improvement and clinical excellence, ensuring the highest standards of patient care consistent with BSD/UCM’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
The CQO will have an appointment in an academic department of the Biological Sciences Division at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Compensation is dependent upon qualifications. The CQO will lead transformational change, driving internal and external performance improvements with speed and impact. The CQO will provide executive leadership in strengthening a clinical excellence culture where everyone is engaged to improve the patient experience and impact.
The CQO will advance accountability and effectiveness by applying rigorous analytic, evidence-based approaches while supporting discovery, scholarship, and innovation. Working through departmental and service line quality chiefs and other designated leaders, the CQO ensures that physicians’ efforts in clinical quality, safety, access, patient experience, and health equity are pursued with the highest standards of rigor and accountability. The CQO will also champion innovation in quality and safety practices and partner closely with patient experience leaders to keep patient-centered care at the core of the organization’s work.
In a rapidly evolving healthcare environment where quality, safety, and patient experience directly shape an organization’s reputation, identity, and reimbursement, the CQO will drive improvement by strengthening performance through thoughtful risk-benefit decision-making, benchmarking against leading academic health systems and integrated delivery systems and implementing best-in-class solutions to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity. The CQO will provide visionary oversight for departmental and service line quality chiefs and the antimicrobial stewardship program, reporting to UCMC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tipu Puri and Krista Curell, President of UCMC Hyde Park and UChicago Crown Point, and Executive Vice President and System COO. Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate, DO, or equivalent; 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois; 3) be board-certified or board-eligible through the appropriate specialty board.
Experience operating within a dyad physician/administrator leadership structure, with 3–5 years of progressive formal leadership experience in clinical quality, patient safety, or performance improvement in a large, complex academic medical center or teaching hospital is preferred.
