POSITION OVERVIEW
Under direction, assists in the coordination of the daily operations of the Child Study Center; enforces regulations under the Child Care Program guidelines; implements and maintains an appropriate learning environment for the children; and performs related work as required. The Child Study Center Site Coordinator establishes classroom policies and procedures for children's development and safety; ensures Center maintains proper license requirements and implements State regulations.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the lead level class in the Child Study Center Series. Positions in this class serve as lead workers on a regular basis while also performing advanced teaching duties. Incumbents serve as a technical resource to staff, and they may represent the District during site inspections. This class is distinguished from Child Study Center Specialist III because the former class is the advanced where incumbents perform some specialized educational duties but do not serve as designated lead workers at a childcare site.

Essential Functions
- Ensures compliance with state and federal requirements, including Title 5, Title 22, and Title VII, health, safety, and education codes. Maintains required adult/child ratios in accordance with Title 5 and Title 22.
- Ensures the environment upholds health and safety standards, including emergency drills, first aid protocols, and management of allergies or medications.
- Works collaboratively with staff to implement curriculum aligned with the California Preschool/Transitional Kindergarten Learning Foundations.
- Assists with classroom instruction when needed to maintain quality programming and staffing levels.
- Observes and assesses children's developmental progress using a variety of tools, including the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP).
- Supports individualized learning plans and encourages family participation through Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQs).
- Maintains child portfolios and ensures accurate documentation of developmental milestones.
- Mentors and assists Early Childhood Education student teachers and Child Study Center Specialists in applying theory to practice.
- Provides constructive feedback and guidance to Early Childhood Education students to support their professional growth.
- Coordinates and conducts parent-teacher conferences, providing families with developmental resources and updates.
- Supports annual parent orientation and participates in Parent Advisory meetings to integrate family input into program decisions.
- Collaborates with community agencies and resources to support children and families.
- Monitors enrollment records, including certifications for subsidized state funds and renewals, ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Tracks attendance in alignment with California State Preschool Program (CSPP) requirements.
- Assists the Director in completing the CSPP fiscal year program calendar and ensuring alignment with institutional schedules.
- Collaborates with Department staff to ensure meals meet nutritional guidelines and dietary needs.
- Engages in required annual professional development to maintain the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) permit requirements.
- Upholds the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Code of Ethics, maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and collaborative problem-solving.
OTHER DUTIES
- Support a positive, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
- Report suspected child abuse or neglect in compliance with mandated reporting laws.
- Refers people to other offices, services, campus locations and resources as appropriate.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements & Desirables
REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
- Any Bachelor's degree; and
- Minimum two (2) years' teaching and supervisory experience in a preschool program; and
- Valid/Current Pediatric CPR/First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain certification within the first academic year of employment; and
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and the campus community; and
Required Licenses and Certifications:
- Child Development Site Supervisor or Program Director Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
Desired Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child/Human Development is highly desirable
- Bilingual ability to communicate effectively in English/Spanish or any other foreign language.
- Adept at digital photography, presentation software, and other forms of electronic documentation of children's learning.
- A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance program or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- Department of Education, Child Development Division guidelines; Child Care Food Program guidelines; Early childhood development and appropriate practices; basic child psychology; appropriate health and safety codes; reporting procedures for suspected child abuse; laws and regulations covering such abuse; materials, tools and equipment to be used in the classroom setting; skills in establishing and maintaining effective communications with adults and children; standard office productivity software.
- Teaching young children in a group setting preferred.
- State and federal regulations that pertain to the California State Preschool Program, including Title 5 Child Development Division regulations, Title 22 Community Care Licensing regulations, Child and Adult Care Food Program Guidelines, Desired Results Developmental Profile, California Preschool Learning Foundations, Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS).
- Standard office software tools and specialized software used in childcare settings.
Skills and Ability to:
- Meet State and Federal regulations; enforce and apply all laws, rules and regulations; read, understand and interpret standard official legal documents; exercise judgment and discretion in analyzing and resolving problems; read, correct and prepare clear and concise reports; give and follow written and oral instructions; assist in the planning, developing, and implementation of educational programs and experiences for children ages 0-5; maintain cooperative working relationships; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse population.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting children or heavy items (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking. Must be able to work safely in an environment containing biological conditions which may be unhealthful or hazardous (such as bodily fluids and waste, germs, childhood diseases).
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Prior to employment, the selected candidate will be required to complete the following:
1. In accordance with Federal Law all employees must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
2. Criminal Justice/Fingerprint and Child Abuse Index Services clearances.
3. California Education Code, Section 87408.6 requires persons employed by a community college in an academic or classified position to submit to a TB risk assessment developed by CDPH and CTCA and, if risk factors are present, an examination to determine that he or she is free of infectious TB; initially upon hire and every four years thereafter.
4. DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS: All Marin Community College District (MCCD) employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the MCCD requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this class, employees are regularly required to communicate with others in person, over the phone and electronically; sit, walk and stand, and use hands or fingers to feel, reach with hands or arms, and perform repetitive movements of hands or wrists; stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl. The employee is required to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally operates a vehicle. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to observe details at close and distance ranges, distinguish basic colors and shades, view small fonts/words for extended periods; depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Hearing requirements include ability to hear telephone and in-person conversations under normal office conditions and to differentiate operating equipment sounds.
Mental Demands:

CLASSIFICATION CATEGORY & RETIREMENT PLAN
Employees in classifications represented by the California School Employees' Association (CSEA) Chapter 196 are required to comply fully with the CSEA/Marin Community College District (MCCD) Collective Bargaining Agreement. General information regarding rights and responsibilities under the Agreement can be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreements section of our Human Resources site. CSEA employees are also members of the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), to which the member contributes up to 8% of their reportable compensation on a monthly basis.

Starting Salary Range: $48.04 - $52.96 per hour (step 1 to 3). Normal entering step is Step 1.
