Research, design, develop, and evaluate plans, specifications, and layouts for residential, commercial, and industrial development projects, public works improvements, or other capital improvement projects using applied knowledge of civil engineering. Design naturally and physically built structures using knowledge of biology, statistics, dynamics, materials, kinematics, hydrology, hydraulics, and geotechnics. Prepare technical reports, create design specifications, and determine cost estimates. Oversee construction of projects to ensure adherence to design specifications. Ensure projects comply with local zoning and ordinances, as well as national regulatory requirements. Identify, evaluate, and document existing structures for signs for disrepair and provide design remedies as necessary. Create and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics. Use drafting tools or computer-aided design (CAD) equipment and software in design work. May manage project schedules and budgets. May be required to approve designs that can impact the health, safety, and welfare of the general public, as required by law. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and may require professional engineering certification. Requires moderate skill set and proficiency in discipline. Conduct work assignments of increasing complexity, under moderate supervision with some latitude for independent judgment.
Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience. Assumes work equivalency (1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience).

The successful candidate will join our utilities department team helping to oversee and manage multiple utility systems for our campus of over 1,500 acres serving over 65,000 staff, students and faculty. For our Civil Engineers these include our Drinking Water, Secondary Water, Natural Gas Master Meter, Storm Water, and Sanitary Sewer systems.
Whether we are reviewing new construction documents for 21st century buildings, or upgrading aging infrastructure from the 20th and sometimes the 19th centuries, there is always a variety of assignments to keep the work interesting.

Responsibilities
Additional responsibilities for either position above include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for developing, maintaining and analyzing water, wastewater and stormwater hydraulic and hydrology models. Calibrating models using field data, modeling what-if scenarios for future growth and expansion of utility systems.
