Job Duties: The Department of Radiology is seeking a Client-Based Researcher (WISCR Project Manager) who will help lead the day-to-day management of the research program. This project manager will work within a core group of researchers and staff to establish partnerships with community partners, execute data use agreements, and then manage the collection and curation of high-quality data to inform and improve breast cancer screening, treatment, and outcomes. This position will report directly to the Director.

The Wisconsin Imaging-based Screening and Cancer Research (WISCR) Network is a partnership between the University of Wisconsin-Madison and community radiology practices throughout Wisconsin to aggregate de-identified breast imaging data with the goal of improving population-based screening outcomes. WISCR provides a resource for big data research, including the use of artificial intelligence in screening, that will influence regional and national cancer screening policies and practices.

This position will provide data management, programming of reports and summaries, and basic data analysis to support research operations, scientific grants and publications. The successful candidate will have or rapidly acquire an understanding of breast cancer screening data, fundamentals of data management using SAS and SQL, and a solid understanding of data structure and function necessary for scientific analyses. The Project Manager is expected to develop a deep understanding of the data compiled in the registry and will act as subject matter expert, respond to queries and resolving issues with local investigators, external partners, and collaborating researchers.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS: This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and edits research protocols under limited supervision
  • Supervises day-to-day operations of a research unit and may supervise others within a specialized laboratory or research area
  • Prepares reports and materials and disseminates information to appropriate entities
  • Participates in research publishing and informational presentations to contribute to the development of (research type)
  • Identifies concerns and recommends solutions to leadership
  • Directs the development of research methodologies and procedures according to client-based objectives and specifications
  • Collects and analyzes moderately complex research data for one or more research projects. Designs and conducts experiments and interviews. Documents results according to established policies and procedures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Job experience after a master’s degree (at least 3 years)
  • Background in big data analytics and/or cancer outcomes/health services research
  • Background in statistical analysis, with basic skills in SAS
  • Experience with medical data management, including basic knowledge of SQL

Education: Master’s degree required; focus in public health, epidemiology, data science, or related field.
