Why join Harvard University Health Services (HUHS) Harvard University Health Services (HUHS), part of University Central Administration (CADM), is the on-site multi-specialty medical practice and health administration for the Harvard community. It provides care to students, faculty, staff, eligible post-docs, retirees, and their dependents. HUHS also manages two university-owned health plans, HUGHP and SHIP, and collaborates with other departments to address public health needs. Job Description As a member of the Counseling and Mental Health Service’s (CAMHS) Access Team, the Clinical Access Clinician will, in most circumstances, serve as the first point of contact for students seeking care for mental health and well-being concerns. The clinician provides direct clinical evaluation, consultation and guidance in navigating available resources, and facilitates appropriate next steps to connect students with services.  This position is scheduled for 40 hours per week for 10 months of the year, with a reduced schedule of 20 hours per week during June and July. Job-Specific Responsibilities: Serves as the initial point of contact for students presenting with mental health and well-being concerns by facilitating initial phone consultations. Conducts clinical evaluations, screens for safety and risk factors, reviews available resources, and uses clinical judgment to recommend appropriate services and support next steps in connecting students with care.  Uses information gathered from students and monitors caseload capacity and utilization across CAMHS staff to determine appropriate provider assignments.  Ensures the timely and complete entry of consultation data into the Access database and submits documentation for all clinical encounters in the electronic health record.  Understands and adheres to Access Team workflow and communication guidelines, promoting consistency in the student experience throughout the initial consultation, triage, and referral processes.  Provides interim counseling services for students who require stabilization and/or additional support connecting with off-campus resources.  Maintains a clinical caseload of students engaged in short-term therapy at CAMHS.  Facilitates urgent care appointments and supports other CAMHS staff in connecting students with resources following urgent care visits.  Maintains current knowledge of resources available within and beyond CAMHS, including wait times and options for connecting students with CAMHS providers; other Harvard resources, such as the ARC, CWHP, and DAO; TimelyCare services; and off-campus individual providers, group practices, and higher levels of care.  Maintains an understanding of services covered by the Student Health Fee and Student Health Insurance Plan. Respond to students’ questions about covered services and redirects them to appropriate contacts, such as Member Services or the Patient Advocate, as needed.  Participates in Access Team huddles by raising questions and providing feedback and consultation regarding clinical encounters and resource options.  Participates in meetings with off-campus providers as coordinated or requested by the Team Manager. Collects and shares student feedback about resources for review and assessment by the Access Team.  Participates in interdisciplinary collaboration with Access Clinicians, CAMHS support staff, therapists, the psychiatry team, and leadership to support the triage of students’ needs and connection to appropriate resources.  Serves as a point person for CAMHS staff seeking to connect students with off-campus and/or higher-level care services. Responsibilities include conducting outreach to students, determining appropriate resources, and providing the information needed to facilitate next steps.  Supports the review of support phone line (ProtoCall) reports and facilitates outreach and triage as needed.  Collaborates effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Participates in quality assurance and improvement activities, including activities supporting applicable AAAHC standards, and maintains required HUHS documentation and monitoring standards. Participates in the weekday urgent care schedule and departmental committees, as applicable. Maintains compliance with HUHS policies, departmental procedures, required training, and applicable privacy, security, and regulatory requirements, including HIPAA. Working Conditions: Travel may be required Schedule is Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week, with at least one day per week being on schedule until 6pm Qualifications Basic Qualifications: Master’s degree Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience Additional Qualifications and Skills: Experience with emergency care and crisis management.   Demonstrated work experience in the following areas: assessment/treatment of a diverse population, substance addiction, eating disorders, multicultural adjustment issues, student health issues, and outreach and consultation in a university community. Fluency in a foreign language (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or Spanish). Certificates and Licenses: Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (L.I.C.S.W) with current Massachusetts license OR Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) Additional Information Standard Hours/Schedule:  August - May = 40 hours per week, M-F, one day of remote work and one where they must work until 6pm. Standard hours 7:00am - 4:00pm.  June- July = 20 hours per week. Work Format Details This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs.
