Position:
The College of Health Professions at Towson University invites applications for two (2) non-tenure-track, 12-month position at the Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor rank in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies beginning Spring 2026.
Qualifications:
A minimum of an accredited Physician Assistant Studies master’s degree (or its equivalent) with NCCPA certification and eligibility for licensure in the state of Maryland at the time of appointment.
A minimum of three years of clinical or professional experience. Ability and willingness to teach a range of Physician Assistant related didactic and clinical courses. Excellent professional, written, oral, and conceptual skills. Commitment to collaborating with a wide variety of faculty, students, and staff to foster and enhance a supportive successful teaching environment. Candidates wanting to be considered for the rank of clinical associate professor should have a minimum of 3 years of full-time higher education experience, 3 years of teaching experience, a record of service, and scholarly works.
Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include delivery of high-quality instruction in various Physician Assistant courses and mentoring and advising students as they matriculate through the program. The expected workload is an equivalent of 80% teaching across the semesters, ongoing professional development and education while maintaining clinical expertise. Candidates are also encouraged to engage in traditional scholarship activities that may include publishing, professional presentations, and collaborative scholarly projects that may include external funding. Faculty participate in service activities at the Department, College, University, Profession, and community levels.
All faculty are expected to meet ARC-PA standards and essential program faculty functions.
ESSENTIAL PROGRAM FACULTY FUNCTIONS –
- Participate in curricular design, implementation and review of mission, program goals and the effectiveness of any changes.
- Selecting applicants for admission to the PA program.
- Participate in ongoing Program evaluation.
- Provide learning experiences through teaching and supervision for students in the didactic and clinical phases of the PA program.
- Provide an evaluation of student performance, as related to the objectives of the courses and program.
- Participate in review of program compliance with ARC-PA standards, policies and procedures.
- Advise, counsel and mentor PA students.
- Assuring the availability of remedial instruction.
- Participate in service activities, including committee work and community outreach.
- Maintain a high level of clinical and professional excellence.
ADDITIONAL LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES –
Based on interest and expertise, eligible candidates may be assigned program related leadership responsibilities to include:
- Director of Clinical Education-Develop and manage supervised clinical practice experiences for clinical year students by collaborating with existing clinical partners and developing new clinical placements.
- Director of Student Success-the individual would be responsible for early identification of students at risk and developing remediation activities.
- Director of Accreditation & Assessment-the individual would be responsible for managing the annual program evaluation and assessment plan to meet ARC-PA Standards.
- Associate Program Director-Support the Program Director in the administration, accreditation compliance, curriculum oversight, faculty coordination, and student progression processes to ensure effective delivery of high-quality education

Department and Program Information:
The Department of Physician Assistant Studies is one of the six academic departments in the Towson University College of Health Professions. In addition to the Chair/ Program Director, the program is comprised of full-time faculty, part-time faculty, and staff positions. The program is 26 months long, beginning in June, and is approved by the ARC-PA for up to 36 students, annually.
One of the oldest in the country, the program has Accreditation-Continued status to the Towson University Department of Physician Assistant Studies Program sponsored by Towson University. Accreditation-Continued is an accreditation status granted when a currently accredited program is in compliance with the ARC-PA Standards. The approximate date for the next validation review of the program by the ARC-PA will be October 2033. The review date is contingent upon continued compliance with the Accreditation Standards and ARC-PA policy.

Salary and Benefits:
Targeted Salary Range: $120,000-$130,000 Clinical Assistant Professor; $135,000-$150,000 Clinical Associate Professor, commensurate with experience and responsibilities.
