The Faculty of Science and Mathematics in the School of Applied Sciences and Arts within the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts at Arizona State University’s Polytechnic campus invite applications for the position of Clinical Assistant Professor in Applied Biological Sciences, with a focus on teaching undergraduates and graduate students in pre-veterinary science or related fields. The anticipated start date is August 2026. As a member of an interdisciplinary faculty, the successful candidate will contribute to the growth of the Applied Biological Sciences program and work collaboratively with colleagues in chemistry, mathematics, physics, and other disciplines to advance the college’s mission of excellence in teaching, learning, and student success.

Primary responsibilities include teaching lecture and laboratory courses, developing instructional materials and syllabi, advising students, and providing service to the school, college, and university. The successful candidate will play a key role in engaging students in the rapidly growing pre-veterinary program by teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in vertebrate biology and related subjects, offered in both in-person and online formats.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-eligible position with promotion possibilities, and is renewable on an academic year basis contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university. The position carries an 80% teaching and 20% service load, with a typical teaching assignment of four (4) courses per semester, which may include a combination of lecture and laboratory courses delivered across multiple modalities. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Candidates must reside in Arizona or be willing to relocate.

The School of Applied Sciences and Arts in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts at Arizona State University delivers applied sciences and liberal arts courses to students from all majors at the Polytechnic and Downtown Phoenix campuses. It has more than 170 full-time faculty who serve nearly 4,500 students majoring in career-focused, applied-learning programs, including undergraduate applied biology majors in pre-veterinary medicine, pre-dental, and sustainable horticulture; applied physics; applied quantitative science; interdisciplinary studies; science, technology, and society; history of science, technology, and innovation; communication; and more.

The School of Applied Sciences and Arts leads ASU's Writers' Studio, which provides first-year composition courses to all ASU Online students. Essential Functions:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the pre-veterinary program
  • Develop course materials and syllabi for both in-person and online courses
  • Mentor and engage students in pre-veterinary program
  • Provide service to the unit, college, and university by participating in committees and associations
  • Work with faculty head and other faculty/staff to develop course syllabi and assignments; review and evaluate effectiveness of teaching methods and work activities
  • Apply innovative teaching techniques and deliver excellence in teaching of the defined content for assigned courses

Required Qualifications:

A terminal degree (Ph.D., DVS, DVM, VMD or equivalent) in Biological Science, Animal Science, Animal Psychology, Veterinary Science, or a closely related field at time of appointment; OR, a Master’s degree in the above fields with a minimum of 10 years related clinical experience in the applicable field(s)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Post-doctoral/post-DVM research and/or academic experience with specialization in animal sciences, animal behavior, or closely related fields
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness in biology, or related field, at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
  • Ability to establish collaborative partnerships with industry, clinics, agencies, the private sector, and/or other scientists
  • Experience implementing course management and homework systems in digital environments such as Canvas and across various modalities (asynchronously and/or synchronously)
  • Demonstrated commitment to values expressed by the ASU Charter
