Overview

Under the general direction of the College of Nursing Dean, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and Course Leader, the Clinical Associate facilitates application of theory into patient care situations in the clinical environment.

Responsibilities

• Attend Clinical Associate Orientation and associated meetings
• Supervise and teach students in the assigned clinical area, encouraging critical thinking and clinical judgment
• Evaluate student paperwork and provide written feedback in a timely manner as designated by course faculty
• Complete formative evaluations of each student on a weekly basis
• Complete summative evaluations of each student at end of rotation
• Uphold AUCON and AU policies included in student handbook
• Promote positive relationships with clinical facilities
• Adhere to and uphold all clinical agency policies and procedures
• Role model professional behaviors
• Maintain ongoing communication with course faculty, health care facility staff, and students
• Demonstrate clinical expertise in area of clinical instruction
• Attend Faculty Organization meetings as a non-voting member, if desired

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master of Science in Nursing preferred for undergraduate teaching; Master of Science in Nursing required for graduate teaching
• Clinical expertise in area where clinical teaching will occur
• Active license in state of practice
