Clinical Asst Professor - Practice Partnership with CRMC
Job Purpose: Shared faculty position in an academic-practice partnership between the University of Wyoming (UW), Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing (FWWSON) and Cheyenne Regional Medical Center (CRMC) over a minimum 3-year period to enhance patient care outcomes through implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP). The home institution of the faculty member will be the UW Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing. This person will be an employee of UW and will have job duties such as teaching, advising, service, and scholarly practice. They will also meet at least once during the semester with the leadership at CRMC to ensure shared goals that have been identified are being met and to share feedback regarding the partnership. The person will be expected to have 3 hours of on campus office hours per week over 2 days. They will also be expected to be onsite at CRMC 2 days per week. They will be expected to meet with the CRMC Director of Professional Practice and keep them appraised of the number of BSN and higher degree nurses at CRMC and in Cheyenne, assisting the nurses with creating/presenting/publishing evidenced based experiences at CRMC, assisting students at CRMC with evidence-based practice implementation, and infusing evidence-based practices and projects throughout CRMC.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teaching: Serves as faculty in the FWWSON teaching on campus, clinical, or online to ensure students are learning best practice approaches to patient care and application of EBP. Meets teaching expectations of faculty in the FWWSON. Teaching responsibilities include time spent in the classroom, laboratory, or off-campus and telecommunications courses and in immediate preparation for them; maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught; preparing teaching materials; conferring with students on course materials; directing individual and group studies and practice; reviewing written examinations and papers; supervising independent study projects; and supervising or teaching clinical internships or programs. Maintains 3 hours of on campus office hours/week over days.
- Advising: Academic/career advising for CRMC nurses in FWWSON nursing programs; recruitment of Cheyenne community members and CRMC staff to UW FWWSON programs, including BSN, MS, and DNP.
- Service: Professional service implies the use of academic and professional expertise to serve the profession, the community, the state, the nation, and the world. Individual meets FWWSON service expectations through participation in school, college, university, and professional committees, demonstrating evolving leadership skills.
- Scholarly Practice: Develops and maintains a scholarly practice in collaboration with CRMC, reporting to the CRMC Director of Professional Practice, with onsite practice two days per week at CRMC. Meets FWWSON faculty criteria for rank related to scholarly practice including: Develops aims in collaboration with CRMC and Dean of the FWWSON at least once each semester. Regularly provides updates of progress towards aims, including educational and patient care outcomes, related to partnership, reporting to FWWSON Dean and CRMC at least 3x/year. Develops and maintains a program of scholarly practice in collaboration with CRMC. Demonstrates a consistent record of peer-reviewed scholarly dissemination of individual work based on identified program of scholarship as outlined in School of Nursing expectations for clinical faculty. Provides consultation to nursing and other CRMC staff in development and dissemination of EBP, Quality Improvement (QI), and/or research projects, including support in securing Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval as appropriate. Serves as a member of the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) council and other councils as a consultant to support best evidence in practice and continued CRMC Magnet Status.
NOTE: This individual is a University of Wyoming employee and is based in Laramie. The expectation is that the faculty member will be physically present and working on campus three days a week and physically present and working at CRMC two days a week. The days at each location will be negotiated each semester and should remain as consistent as possible. Performance evaluations will be conducted by the Dean of the FWWSON, with input from CRMC representatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD or DNP in nursing, OR Doctoral degree in a healthcare related field with masters degree in nursing.
- Ability to obtain an unencumbered Wyoming single state or multi state license by the start of the contract date.
- Meet all compliance requirements (including background check, drug screen, CPR, immunizations, etc.) required by clinical practice partners.
- Experience with the evidence-based practice process.
- Two years of nursing practice and one year of experience teaching in clinical, online and/or classroom settings.
- Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with university vehicle use policy.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
